Overall grade (: I selected an 'A' because of the overall price of the job, the willingness to help and the rapport that was built.
Price grade: To me, the price was like an A-...this is definetely hard to quantify considering that the only other bid that was provided was by Lowe's and they are definetely going to drive costs up to make a profit.
Quality grade: Selecting this grade was hard. I sat and thought about it and I would say that the quality is like an A- or B+. Why? The tile work on the kitchen floor leaves a little to be desired. Most of the problems the men encountered couldn't be avoided due to the nature of the concrete floor they had to work with; however, now that they are done and out of my home, there are a few items that I will be calling them back out for to take care of. Would this keep me from utilizing their services again in the future? Not at all.
Responsiveness: A-. I only say that because I had questions before they got started and my contact person, Steve, wasn't all too fast about getting back to me...that made me a little weary of them. However, if I called the office, they office manager was able to get in touch with somebody and they would call me back. Once they were in my home working, if I had any questions for Steve (whether he was there or not), he got back to me pretty fast. I also saw that once he was there, he was stopping every 5 minutes to return a call or answer a text message.
Punctuality: C. OMG. These guys were late arriving most of the time. It wasn't to the point where I'd say that it was a problem, but it was definitely something I took notice of. I don't know why you're late and truthfully, I don't really care; however, if you're going to be late, something should be said early on and not after the fact. If I'm going to be late paying you, I think you'd want to know sooner rather than later; the same thing goes for your arrival. Would this keep me from using their services again in the future? Nope. However, I now know to not have any true expectation for them to arrive on time
Professionalism: A. Other than the punctuality problem, I felt that the men were professional. My husband and I are both laid back people and so as long as the guys aren't smoking in my house, drinking or cursing, I'm pretty cool. I never had to question where they were. They never had inappropriate conversations. They were all very nice to my baby when he came around trying to see what they were doing. They pretty much stayed focused on the job at hand. As far as I know, they rarely took bathroom breaks and they weren't asking and begging me to feed or water them. LOL! I did offer, but most of the time, they were gracious and declined.
Overall, I have to say that I like All Pro and would recommend and/or use them again. They were the ONLY contractor to come by and give me a quote...all of the other contractors listed on Angie's List flaked out on us. We literally met with 9 other contractors before finding this company (10 if you include Lowe's)
Anyway, the guys arrived on the day they specified and began demo. For the most part, any messes they made, they cleaned up (there's still some grout or thin set left in my grass from when they were rinsing out their buckets) and they were nice enough to take some of the recyclable trash we had piled up on the side of the house.
I never felt uncomfortable with them in my home working and was never scared of them potentially stealing anything when I left. Here's the work that was done: we had our old kitchen torn out and replaced with custom cabinets. The lowers were standard height/depth, but the uppers were increased from 36" to 42". I was originally going to go with KraftMaid cabinets, but for $1k more, I decided to go with the custom cabinets made by a local vendor (this allowed me to get my kitchen by Christmas vice some time in the new year). The color stain was, of course, custom. The boxes are all plywood. The drawers have dovetail construction. We have rollouts at the bottom of all of the cabinets (except a tiny one where I keep my coffee and right under the sink). We also have soft close drawers/cabinets, a pullout for trash/recyclables and a double-decker wooden insert for cutlery. All of the drawers are full extension. The area around the refrigerator was built out so that we can get to the cabinets above it and they built a a divider thingy (lol, gotta love the technical verbiage) to the right of the refrigerator so that it looks like it's in a box (I would really like to provide a picture of this because I just can't describe right). Basically, we have everything we wanted and planned by the local Lowe's Kitchen Designer, without all the nickel and diming they do.
We love our quartz countertop. We got to pick the edge we wanted and was told we wouldn't be charged extra for the fancier edges. We chose the half bullnose for simplicity. There were absolutely no shortcuts taken with the countertop. The seams are darn near invisible...much better than what i've seen in model homes and even in Lowe's! Furthermore, I got the quartz of my choice...not the quartz I was relegated to based on the bid. The lead contractor/owner, Steve, even said that we got some great stone. With the countertop, we received a standard-size stainless steel double sink. We weren't looking for anything fancy and so that worked for us. What makes the sink nice for us is the fact that it's DEEP! Much deeper than the white porcelain sink we previously had. Win for us!
Now the floors are a different story. The concrete slab in our house is not level at all. That did provide some challenges to the installation of the new tile (which by the way is gorgeous). The crew ended up having to take some out, put some in and take some more out because the floor was so uneven. I can't blame them for the crappy concrete, but it did affect the timeframe as well as how the tile was laid.
We also had our downstairs powder room done...that was an add-on project that, of course, extended the time they were in our house. That bathroom looks soooo nice now, it was very much worth the extra time. They took out the old pedestal sink, replaced it with an espresso finish vanity with shaker cabinets/drawers. The quartz that's in the kitchen was carried over to the bathroom as well as the flooring. We received a new toilet and new sink. The plumbing had to be redone to accommodate the new type of sink and they took care of that.
There's still a little more work that needs to be done, but overall, I say the experience was positive. I DEFINETELY think I got my money's worth considering how much the materials cost. I did not select anything that could be considered cheap (except maybe the subway tiles that were used for the backsplash). There are definitely some aspects that could be improved upon, but since EVERYONE was so sweet (especially Jessie) and were more than willing to fix any problems that my husband and I noticed, I really can't complain.
Thanks to Steve, Joey, Jessie, Jason and one other young man whose name escapes me at this time (I'm so sorry...I remember your face though :) ).
*If I could submit photos I would. The guys should be very proud of their work!
The installation went very well with what they had to work with, this is a 1920's galley kitchen so needless to say neither the walls nor the floors are completely level. Alex did a great job installing the cabinets, taking pride in his work, very nice guy!. He also created a flip open on the false drawer under the sink which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!. Steve (owner) and Marshall also did a fantastic job installing the solid surface countertops, again taking pride and not leaving until THEY were satisfied, which I appreciate. There was an issue with one of the cabinet doors which Steve had resovled with days so not a big deal. We were able to get this all done 2 (weekdays) ahead of schedule. Would I recommend this company? Absolutely! These guys are very personable and the cabinets (Mayland) and countertops (solid surface) are beautiful! I didn't forget about you Joey ;) you're an OK dude as well. WONDERFUL JOB GUYS! THANKS AGAIN!!
