The burner in my water heater would not turn on and noticed that the led light indicater was blinking. I consulted the owners manual and it stated that the gas control valve/Thermostat failed and needed replacing. I looked up the part and it would cost $180 for the part alone. I also knew that the intake valve for the water heater would not shut off.
I called Javier at 8pm thinking I would leave a voice mail message concerning my water heater. Much to my surprise, Javier answered the phone. He was very pleasant and understanding of the situation. He said he could come by in the morning.
Javier and his helper came by and looked at the water heater. He noticed that there was heavy calcium build up on the water line into the house. He also said that the gas plumbing was outdate it was never upgraded since the 1950's. There were 2 1/2 years left on the warranty on the water heater and Javier suggested I call Sears because the Thermostat would be free. Javier stated that if I had any problems with Sears to call him and he would come back. There was No Charge for Javier to come out and look at the water heater.
I called Sears and could only get a technician to come out the next afternoon. Sears technician came out and removed the Thermostat. He pushed a reset button on the back of the Thermostat and reinstalled it back on the water heater (5 Minutes). He also noticed the calcium build up on the water line which was possibly due to the Anode rod needing to be replaced. The technician said was not permitted by the company to replace the Anode rod. Sears charged me $75.00 for a service call.
I called Javier right after the technician left. Javier stated he was in the neighborhood on a call and could come right after he finished the job. Javier re-explained everything he was going to do in layman's terms and quoted the price. He replaced hot and cold nipples, hot and cold flex lines, cold water intake valve, hot and cold hoses to water heater, gas flex line, 1/2" gas shut off valve, install new Anode rod. Most of the pipes were fused together due to the calcium build up and being over 60 years old.
Javier and his helper did an excellent job and cleaned up after the work was completed. I do plan on using them again whenever I have a plumbing problem.
