He was able to identify settling in the house that affected the frames of both doors, and gave us something to watch for.
Indeed, the only problem is that he is in such high demand that patience is required to book time. :)
He installed a Therma-Tru door. The workmanship on the door was a bit sloppy. That is to say, the glazing on the windows was a mess: very sticky and difficult to clean. I contacted Therma-Tru and asked for instructions to remove the excess the glazing. They sent me a canned response:
Thank you for contacting customer support. In response to your email I have attached below the best way to remove excess sealant. 1. Remove any excess glass glazing sealant by first spraying with a window cleaner or water.2. Use a single edge razor blade to score the glazing along the edge of the frame. Holding the razor blade at a 45 degree angle, scrape glazing from glass.3. Wipe remaining residue off with window cleaner or mineral spirits.4. Clean frame with a mild detergent and water, or use a TSP solution. Rinse well and allow to dry completely. I am sorry a large amount of excess ended up on the glass. The local assembler added additional sealant to provide a tighter seal against weather for you and after tightening the lite frame it may have squeezed out more but is easily cleaned.
Easily cleaned? Hardly. The excess did not scrape away. It was very sticky, like removing chewing gum on a hot day. The worst part: more glazing oozed out the next day and I had to start all over.
While I do not fault Patrick, I have to say I am not pleased with Therma-Tru or there lack of customer concern/support.
to know about doors. I have a very old house as mentioned above so my doors required special knowledge. The only down side to Pat is that he is very difficult to schedule. Because he is so in demand, I waited almost two months for him to come to
my West L.A. home. It was worth it and I would not hire anyone else to work on my doors. I gave him an A for responsiveness
not because he was able to do the job when I wanted him to do it but because he was very good about calling me back and keeping me appraised of how his schedule was going.
It went very well. The work was completed in less than 1/2 hour. I was relieved that he did not have to take the door off its hinges to make the repair. This would have made the repair much more expensive. Mr. Stone was extremely professional and efficient. I will definitely call him if/when I need additional work on my doors.
I also asked Pat to repair a bifold door guide. I had purchased a replacement part but the door had a metal mounting bracket which Pat had to remove in order to use the replacement part. He successfully completed that repair in about 20 minutes and the bifold door now works perfectly.
I also asked Pat if he could repair a sliding screen door which was missing a top roller. He said he couldn't repair those as the roller was not replaceable. I suspected as much but thought it didn't hurt to ask.
Pat did an excellent job of cleaning up the job site, and charged $235 for labor and the entry door part.
Pat is a conscientious and knowledgeable tradesman, and I would certainly hire him again if the need arose.
