Took it to the shop on Clement St. Was fearful of parking, but gladly, the shop has a temporary parking space right in front, so I did not have to lug the heavy machine any distance.
My wife and I were greeted very cordially. We explained the problem: the repairman was very knowledgable and the repair price was agreeable.
Went back the following week to pick up. It was demonstrated that machine was fixed.
A couple of weeks later, my wife claimed that machine is now noisier than before, and that it does not engage the slowest speed (rheostat problem?) Othewise, it works fine.
I notice that the newer models of this popular machine have plastic gears. This surely dampens the grinding gear noise and keeps the price down, but we want to keep the old workhorse. We discussed taking it back, but decided not to hassle this problem, so we put up with the noise.
Yes, the machine was repaired and is operational again.

Our older model KitchenAid stand mixer was not working properly. Son diagnosed the problem as a bad speed controller. He repaired it very quickly and the mixer works fine now.
We brought our mixer in, he diagnosed the problem, told us the cost and let us decide if we wanted to fix it or not. Very professional. Highly recommended and I would go to him again for any small appliance repair.

Son usually does not do house calls at all but he did make a visit to one of our apartment units to fix a broken burner on an electric stove. I love it when service people say, "Next time you can do this yourself and save a lot of money," especially if it's something easy to fix and doesn't pose any kind of dangerous risk. Son, of course, mentioned this to me and then proceeded to show me how to fix what needed to be fixed and explained in detail why he was doing what he was doing. Based on his professionalism, friendliness and suggestions on how to save money in the future, I will always recommend his shop on Clement and also go to his shop first for all small appliance repairs and needs.

The heater was repaired, ready for pickup on the promised date and the price was as quoted. It has worked fine since then. He also sells a variety of small appliances. I wouldn't heaitate to purchaseany of those from him.
