Tom Lee Roofing did our roof in the Sunset District of San Francisco about four years ago (right as we were coming out of COVID). His team is professional and works efficiently. He walked us through the project prior to starting, frequently inspected the work, and offers to inspect future projects that may impact the warranty (e.g., if you need to put in a kitchen vent). We are so pleased with his work.

They did an excellent job and were on time. I would definitely hire them again.

The crew did a satisfactory job on 4/7/16 and we have had no water leak every since (today is 9/27/16). On job day, everyone showed up on time - Randy Lee, Jose, and Jose's helper Renee. Jose took off the affected roof membrane and discovered another source of water leak. Randy showed us. We agreed to go forward and to compensate them extra for the unexpected repair. Randy left. Jose and Renee worked hard all day, taking a little time off for lunch in their truck. 2 plumbing staff showed up for 1 hour to complete their part of the job. Jose showed us his progress occasionally. Everything was done by 5:30 including clean-up. They left water on the roof over night for water testing. Jose and Renee came back the next day to evaluate the water test. All were satisfactory. They explained everything, gave advise to maintain the roof, answered questions. We gave a check for the remaining cost.

I interviewed a few different ones and they were about the same cost but they seemed more professional and they got the job done on time so that was good and as far as I know, it seems to be good quality.

Crew appeared on appointed day, worked steadily for 4 1/2 days.
Hasn't rained so don't know whether there will be any problems,
but everything looks fine.

Tom Lee was one of just two roofers *all* our neighbors recommended. No matter the person, we heard the same thing over and over: and quot;A roof? You want Tom Lee or (other place). Those are the only places you get to do a roof right.and quot; OK then!
Tom Lee did a solid, efficient (one very long day) job replacing our flat roof, adding shingles to an eve, building and installing a new skylight, and installing a Solatube. Going into the consultation, we thought we wanted a skylight above our rather dark stairwell. Tom Lee explained that they could do this, but that the carpentry aspects required would bring the cost to $4-5,000, and that it was quite an investment for a stairwell. I did not know about the far less expensive alternative, the Solatube, but I'm grateful they mentioned it. We had one installed, it was very inexpensive comparably, and it does a great job bringing just the right amount of light into the darker center area of our home.
We are able to see our roof easily from the steeper hillside behind us, and it looks great to us. So far, about four months later, we've had no known issues with leaks or anything else.
To set expectations fairly, Tom Lee is very busy and in high demand. Plan ahead. We called in August to schedule our roof installation for October. Much in the same way good restaurants have long lines, reliable contractors and providers often have a wait.

A year ago I used them for gutter work. The man that came out the year before went up and said my gutters are good for another 10 years so I didn't need to change them right now so he went to check the rest of the roof. He came down and said one of the skylights was not put in correctly and it is flat so the water sits on top of it and is rusting it so eventually the glass is going to fall through. He said, "You could leave it for a year if you want but I wouldn't leave it for much longer than that." Then he checked and corrected minor things that needed to be done on the roof. So I told him I would call him when I'm ready to have the skylight replaced. Their office called me and the receptionist said, "I noticed that you're still on our list," and they sent someone else to check my skylight and he said the same thing the other guy said and they took care of it. They put a new skylight in and put in new flashes around the edging of the house to make sure all the vents have covers around them so that rain doesn't get in. One thing I really liked was their honesty, because the first guy told me I didn't need to replace my gutters and that was what made me go back to them to have them do my skylight.

They proposed a fix for the leaks, but it still continues to leak. But then they're saying, "Oh, it's due to the section that's not related." But like, "Why did I have to fix the section they recommended?" It was the service that didn't work out as planned.

The project went reasonably well from start to finish. The estimator from Tom Lee Roofing was prompt, courteous, and professional. We discussed a number of scenarios for solving our problem, and the bid submitted addressed the challenge for approximately 30% less than bids received from competitors, all of whom had different approaches. The crew leader and crew arrived at the project on time each day, and were professional and courteous as well. The work was noisy, but when you're going to be pounding on a roof all day, noise is hard to avoid. There were some small items of debris left after the project, but they were relatively few and not in conspicuous places.
The project did have one hiccup resulting from confusion surrounding details in the original quote. As such, Tom Lee Roofing had to come back for a second phase of the project, which we had been under the impression would be included in the original scope of work. In working out the details of the second phase, they acknowledged their part in the confusion, and quickly remedied the situation at a reasonable price.

Tom Lee, the owner, took photos of my roof and gutters to show me the repair work which needed to be done.
A week later, he appeared with his crew, and showed his men the work to be accomplished. It was a five hour operation.
I liked the professionalism of Mr. Lee and his men.

Excellent. Prompt, polite and completed the job in one day. This was a tough job; a very steep roof on a three story house, located up a hill. They handled it all very professionally. Impressive!

I had bids from 4 roofers and really like Tom Lee Roofing. As it turned out, everything with Tom Lee was great. However, we had a lot of problems with the insulation company I chose to insulate the roof, as well as our garage, Everyone at TL worked really hard to make the situation work and it did. Afterwards, they even apologized to me although it wasn't their fault at all.

Very good- hard to agree on a do date, and they were late in finishing due to an error in the replacement skylight, but all ended well. It was finished on the day that the rain came.

Tom Lee did reschedule the start date, but he gave us plenty of notice so that wasn't a problem. The actual work went quickly and seamlessly with very little mess or inconvenience. Tom Lee arranged for a plumber to come in where needed for the light well and a carpenter to install a new back door. This was what I really appreciated since I didn't have to find and schedule separate craftsmen.

I liked Tom Lee's proposal because he is detail oriented and takes the time to describe the details of how he will reroof. He showed up at the beginning and end of the job, which was very good, and his crew worked quietly and harmoniously. Tom Lee and his foreman were conscientious and knowledgeable. His office staff is communicative and pleasant. BUT: When I repeated a second time that I was concerned about removing the dry rot, he said there wasn't a problem and then tried to reassure me by showing me on the roof ( I had to go up on the second story roof), and then he discovered for himself that there was a problem. Apparently he hadn't taken time to look and the foreman had not reported it to him. This is probably the worst issue, although it didn't seem like it: 2. When the dirt and gravel started falling through the roof into the house and I told them, the only response was supplying sheet plastic to me -- several hours into the work. They said they had plastic, but the van was gone, and they started work again without it. I had to take care of it myself, and the foreman and crew members didn't notice, take care of it, or even respond to my request for help. They seemed to have no forewarning that this would happen, and it barely registered when I told them. Toward the end of the job I also had to point out that the collar around the stove pipe had caught a lot of gravel and had to be removed. The foreman removed the collar and helped me do an initial clean up of the considerable shower of gravel and dirt. 3. They didn't have the right size cap for the solar water pipes, and therefore were unable to completely detach the solar system the first day, resulting in no hot water available the first night of their work. (I could have gone out and bought the copper caps if they had told me, but they didn't, and no one on the crew or owner got them.) There seemed to be little concern, as if we were living in a third world country where no hot water seemed acceptable. 4. They were unprepared to treat mold or to allow time for treatment if it was extensive. I went out and bought the copper napthenate, and they treated it. If there had been more mold or rot, I don't believe they would have told me or treated it, and hadn't allowed scheduled time for it to be treated, EVEN THOUGH I had told them it might be necessary at the time of the estimate and again at the initiation of the job. I had to be on the roof and cleaning and going to the hardware store, aware of the issue of dry rot, or this job would have been entirely unacceptable. It was really stressful telling my husband that he had to find a shower elsewhere before going to work as well as trying to madly cover EVERYTHING--the bed, the closets..we'll be cleaning up sawdust, gravel and asphalt for some time to come. Nice, sincere guys. . This was priced to be a highly professional job. It was a developing-world job where the owner had to be on their toes. We survived. I still think they know how to build a high quality roof... Ask me again after it rains.
