We came to know Tacktook in an semi-emergency situation -- we'd contracted with a General Contractor to complete a major renovation of our garage, converting half of it into a legal (permitted) in-law unit. We began this project 6 months before the birth of our son, to actually provide a space for our in-laws to stay -- so completion time was a critical component to our project.
Unfortunately, however, at the start of the project -- our General Contractor did not use Tacktook Construction -- instead going with another subcontractor who we really wish we never met. Significant delays caused by failed inspections, poor quality work, and bad decisions/errors bogged our project down immensely.
6 months later, after the birth of our son, we met Tacktook after the General Contractor finally agreed to fire the previous crew. Working with Tacktook was amazing -- again, a trusted advisor -- someone who is very willing and capable to solve challenges he didn't create to finalize our garage conversion. Granted, he did have to go backwards and fix quite a lot of issues / mistakes that the previous crew made -- but my wife and I couldn't have been more pleased with his work. All in -- Tacktook estimates that it could have been a 2-3 month project all in if he had started the garage conversion project himself -- but after nearly 8 months of back/forth and quite a lot of stress of the first few months of my son's life being consumed by construction issues -- we're extraordinarily happy we've met him.
All in -- Tacktook Construction completed major overhauls to structural, plumbing, and electrical work to convert about 600 square feet of garage into a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry -- including exceptional finishing work in tiling, stairs, appliances, and trim. I can't tell you how many issues he helped us deal with -- from issues created by the previous crew to fixes requested by the city to issues with our general contractor. Tacktook is a 'fixer' -- someone with 30+ years of experience dealing with every issue you might run into, and who will help guide you to a practical and efficient solution.
Couldn't recommend Tacktook more highly -- he's definitely someone we'll call first for our next project.
