It went great. I called Greg on a Monday, met him at the job site within an hour. His guys started the work the next morning. The job was completed and they did a great job!

I contacted Spryscapes Construction in March to get an estimate for the work I needed to have done. Greg quickly contacted me to set up a time for him to come over the next day. He was prompt and showed up as promised. I showed Greg my window in one of my bedrooms that was leaking (there was water damage on the drywall on the bottom edges of the window) and my backyard that was filled with weeds that I wanted to have cemented. Greg was not familiar with my window (I had those double double slider windows that were put in the Serramonte area to reduce the noise of the airplanes flying overhead since I was in the flight path of the planes taking off from SFO), but he made knowledgeable recommendations on how he would tackle my leaking problem (and after the visit he did some research). He also made recommendations on how I should cement the backyard and sides of the house and repair the existing concrete in the backyard. I found Greg to be very personable and knowledgeable. Within a short period, Greg emailed me the estimate. Upon my review, I contacted Greg to adjust the scope of work to meet my budget and to hire Spryscapes to do the work. He then updated the estimate and created the contract which had all the information (specific scope of work to be done, terms for payment, specific costs for each of the items) so that there would be no question. I signed the contract and because they had a lot of jobs going on, waited a few weeks before the work started. When the work started, the crew arrived promptly as Greg promised, and they were very friendly and professional to work with. During the excavation and preparation of the back yard for the cement the workers helped saved the red lava rock (per my request) that was currently there for me to reuse later. Preparing my backyard for the cementing was a lot of work and they did the job efficiently and quickly. Also the wooden doors they built to enter the backyard from the north side and the south side were very nice with deadbolt locks. By the 4th day, the backyard was ready for the pouring of the cement. For the leaking window, they were able to replace the trim and seal around the window (Greg had included an allowance in the estimate for a new window in case the window was bad). On the Monday after the concrete was poured and dried, they came to finish the job. Each day the crew cleaned up and left the space neat and clean. I am very satisfied with the work that Spryscapes did (and they were on the dot with the cost estimate). There were no problems at all and it was great working with Greg and his crew. I decided on them because they did both landscaping work and construction work and Greg was very knowledgeable and made good recommendations.. (Other companies I contacted to get a quote did not want to do the job). I will be hiring Spryscapes again for future construction jobs.

It's 1 year after Spryscapes completely remodeled our kitchen in 2014. We're still lovin' their work.

What prompts me to write now is that we just worked on taxes and were reminded how perfectly on budget Greg Spry was with the estimate -- to the final tab.  And the project was completed in the time frame he said it would be.
And, a year later, Greg checked in again to see how things were going -- and sent someone over to take care of a tiny cabinet hinge adjustment I could probably have handled had I bothered to read the instructions.

We've used Spryscapes previously for work on our 1939 home in San Francisco's Outer Sunset District: our back yard patio & garden (2004, $15,000), our remodel of downstairs into washroom and garage (2010; $60,000).  Their work was excellent each time -- so it was a no-brainer to have them work on our kitchen remodel in 2014 ($80,000).

The 2014 kitchen remodel went down to the bare studs and opened up a wall to an adjoining room. The final cost was what Greg had estimated, the time took just what they predicted, any changes came with an estimate and change order. They use solid local subcontractors, excellent workmanship, professional and personable crew.  Cleaned up each day, respectful of our needs and living space. Disposed of the waste responsibly, recycling as feasible.

Spryscapes is both big picture and detail oriented. We loved the details: like having a cleaning crew come through after the job, taking care of all the hidden places dust from the job might have settled through the house, despite their best efforts at containing through the project.

Their fees are fair and competitive with other reputable contractors who pay a decent wage to hold a regular dependable crew, workmanship comp, proper disposal of waste, etc etc. but they are more expensive than cheaper outfits.  We used one of these cheap companies when we first moved in and were really unhappy with their work and work habits. So finding Spryscapes was a blessing. We usually don't get competitive bids anymore because we know they'll do an excellent job for a fair price.  And we enjoy working with them and their crew.

Greg and Mike are former Navy guys, so there is sometimes a loud-talking style that is either endearing ... or not. No matter; they listen well and follow what we want, but definitely have great ideas if we're short of them.

We're really happy with the work and care the people at Spryscapes provide -- and recommend them very highly.

They did the job rapidly. They had to demolish some slanting that was close to the fence. They had a plant director and he  was good about replanting things. He even made suggestions and provided replacement dirt. Everything grew quite nicely. When they finished building the forms out of concrete, they left the leftovers in the yard. It was quite expensive though, but that was my only compliant.

Response from Spryscapes Construction, Inc.

"Hello, We have not worked for you since the 3rd quarter in 2005. It would seem that if there was a problem with our quality of work, even if it was 9+ years ago that you would call the office. Our phone number is still the same and we are in the same location. I'd be more than happy to come out and take a look to see if we could correct the situation. Greg Spry"

It went well. There was a bit of mis-communication regarding the holes in the retaining wall, but they promptly made it right. They're a little pricey, but the quality of work is great, and there's good follow-through. They're good communicators, and are also very responsive.

The experience from start to finish was very positive.  Greg was very professional, patient, and informative during the planning and estimate process, and even after the job as he instructed us on the maintenance of the sod.  He worked with me to create a plan within my budget.  His team showed up on time every day and left the site spotless every day.  They finished the job very quickly and it looks great.  There was one communication problem regarding some details of the fence, but I spoke with the team members about it and they quickly solved the problems.

Greg and Mike were easy to work with. We had only vague ideas of how we wanted the yard to look, and they offered various suggestions/alternatives. Greg's estimate was thorough and well organized. He broke the overall project into distinct parts, which made our review and acceptance of the various aspects much easier. It also made the costs very transparent.
The fence replacement was first. They tore out and removed the cinderblock fence and replaced it with a redwood fence, which looks great. The yard was soon cleared of several years of neglect in terms of weeds. Mike and his guys pulled up the existing flagstone patio, raised the ground about six inches and replaced and extended the patio. Drip irrigation system installed throughout the yard on three different controls, which makes our job easier as we put in plants that need various levels of watering. All the yard irrigation lines are underground, and they installed a line around the upstairs deck that includes individual drip lines into our various containers. When it came to the landscaping, Greg offered various options for what would work, and we love the outcome.
We're thrilled with the results and have received compliments from our neighbors. We appreciate now having a yard with much less need for maintenance. There were no nasty surprises and no unexpected delays. They left the place neater than they found it. I'd definitely recommend them.

Very professional group.  Found out they did general construction work as well and we had a kitchen that needed finishing.  The kitchen work went pretty good but was not completed in the time we desired.
The landscape quote was pretty good but not finished.  My expectation was an artist draft of the yard, like you see on HGTV but was a pencil sketch.  It was to scale, they measured and everything.  I received a ball park figure for everything....!!!!!  and left it with a plan to do it pieces at a time.  So all in all I at least now have a plan to work with.
Great guys, and nice family owned company.  Responsive to calls and emails and work hard to make you happy.

It went well. The man who came out worked up a plan for me for some work. There were no further charges for the service. I just paid for the price of the deal. He was very nice, very personable and very down to earth. I had no complaints about him.

Rescheduled 3 x. Too many cancelled appointment. Lost confidence in service provider -- wouldn't use for project if it's so hard to schedule.
Response from Spryscapes Construction, Inc.

"Out of the three canceled appointments, I did have to cancel 2 of them. One I was sick and the other I canceled the very next day as I had a scheduling conflict with a doctors appointment. The Ledgers canceled the first appointment. At Spryscapes we strive to accommodate all clients and with everyone's busy days sometimes it doesn't work out in a quick time frame. We did keep in contact with the Ledgers. Spryscapes apologizes for any inconveniences. Of the 10 deals that Spryscapes did for this offer we do have a number of other positive reviews. Greg Spry"

Greg Spry is both professional and personable - a rare combination, in my experience! I contacted him regarding  a spacial Angie's List deal to landscape my garden. He contacted me right away to set up an appointment. He showed up on time and took an immediate interest in my project. He listened attentively to my ideas and concerns and offered suggestions and solutions that were well in the scope of my capabilities...what I appreciated most about this experience was how he told me he would teach me how to take care of and maintain the landscaping we were designing myself. I know little about gardening and plant care, and that comment made me feel like a partner in this project, not just a consumer of a service. He said he would contact me the following week with detailed plans, which he did. I was delighted with every step in the experience I had with Spryscapes, and would not hesitate to recommend Greg Spry to any of my friends.

Very smooth. At the estimate stage, Greg with Spryscapes provided the most detailed and comprehensive written estimate of all that I got. I checked their reputation and they came highly regarded. At the contract stage they spelled out the work and warranty and worked with me on changes I requested. I have to say this is why I chose to pay their higher price. I felt much more comfortable that I knew what I would be getting for my money. At work time Mike took over the job. He was a very pleasant guy to deal with and kept me in the loop at each stage. Par for the course some options for changing the scope came up during the project and Mike talked me through them. I think I was most impressed with the fact that each day when I got home from work, the site was cleaned up and completely livable. Perfect, no (but what is). My biggest issue is a small one. The two vertical supports on the porch roof are attached with big metal deck-style metal brackets; not the most finished look compared to original and other homes in the neighborhood. Apparently a code requirement so probably not Spryscapes fault. Maybe the paint job will hide them. The job also took a little longer than quoted, although in Spryscapes defense I was not in a hurry and never asked them why or asked them to speed it up. I'm always a little uncomfortable when I have to spend big chunks of my money but Spryscapes was professional, up-front, easy to work with and gave me what I paid for with little stress on my part. I can be a fickle customer so the best thing I can say is I'd use them again. Thanks Greg and Mike.
