I needed to replace my chimney cap after a storm blew off my old rusted one. I knew from past experience that roofers charge an arm and a leg for this so it occurred to me that perhaps a chimney sweep does chimney caps. I lucked out with my first call which was to The S.F. Chimney Sweep. I left a message and got a call back within twenty-four hours from Jeff Friedman. Jeff is very personable and easy to deal with. He came out for a free estimate and while checking that the pipe where the cap goes was in good condition, he noticed that a piece of wood molding was missing from the wood surround that encases the chimney. He told me it needed to be replaced because I could get bees in there or birds too could nest in there. I asked if he could replace it but alas he couldn't because he doesn't do woodwork. But after thinking about it, he said he could use metal flashing instead of wood, if I didn't mind it not being wood. That was fine by me, one less contractor to call. I asked about the chimney cap and what it would look like. He answered my question and added that I could get a stainless steel cap that would not rust but it would cost more. It was only $30 more so I went with the stainless steel model which had to be special ordered. Because of the special order, it took a couple of weeks before installation but the wait was worth it to me. The cap looks great and the flashing strip should keep the birds and the bees away. I think the pricing was very reasonable. It was $190 well spent. I highly recommend Jeff.

Once we asked SF Chimney to do the job, they put us on the schedule and within a week had us up and running. They also ran into a problem they couldn't fix without doing more work. They were clear about the problem and gave us our options. They worked fast without creating a mess.

Jeff was great, he has done lots of work for us in the past and is always fair and available. Because he has done work for us in the past, this time he would not take any money from us, since our chimney did not need any maintenance. We have just moved to this house and did not want to use the fireplace without having it inspected.
