Their website is too difficult and they don't respond to emails that I send for further help. Right now I badly want to cancel my listing with them and can't figure out how to do that.

arranged a very last minute booking, and went above and beyond doing so. Loaded the house with wine, fruit, cheese, fresh flowers, and way more than we would ever have expected. We would have saved almost a full cooler of items we brought had we known...but what a nice bonus. The house was detailed in cleanliness, and decor was perfect for a wine tasting birthday girls week-end. I believe the service is really about the owners involvement, and if it is lacking than the experience is as well. Ours was great Hood River Oregon.

The whole process was a disaster. In order to complete the booking, I had to create an account and be verified by Airbnb. The website itself was full of bugs and glitches. I ended up with 3 different emails associated with my account, and 2 completely different accounts, none by my doing. I use an mac.com email primarily, I used this to set up the original login. This must be verified, and when I clicked to verify this email address, a completely new icloud.com account was set up, but I did not realize this until I was on the phone with customer service. In addition, there was a gmail account that popped up after I used this to try to verify my identity.
As if the email situation wasn't bad enough, the identity verification was the most disturbing thing about this experience. You have to answer security questions, such as where you lived 35 years ago, and enter the last 4 digits of your social security number. You then have to be verified using Facebook, Gmail, or LinkedIn. There is an option to upload a 5 or 10 minute ridiculous video of you talking on camera, but this was not an option as I had no webcam on my computer. You have to enter the passwords for each of these, and I had to enter all 3 with all the problems. I entered my Facebook email and password, but the system froze, and I was not verified. But this was not apparent, I received some email telling my the process was not complete. I tried again to enter my Facebook information, but the system was not working. I then entered my Gmail address with my password, but the system said there was not enough information to verify me. I still have no idea what that means. I then entered my LinkedIn account and password, and this verified me. But in looking on the website, there were no 'transactions' listed, so I call customer service. After quite a few minutes, we discovered that I had 2 accounts, and I was not verified on the icloud.com account. SO I HAD TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE VERIFICATION PROCESS AGAIN. And even after all this, once my transaction was complete, I was told that this would not show up on the transaction page, even though it seemed that it would. I was informed all the information was in an email that was sent. Which, to me, just added to the confusion.
In total, I talked on the phone for between 35 and 40 minutes to sort all of this out. The woman was very nice, but never took any responsibility for the mess. She stated that , 'someone must have entered the icloud.com email address.' She was nicely implying that I had contributed to the confusion. The situation is ongoing, but I have yet to be contacted by a manager to address the situation after 3 conversations. I could not find the phone number for this organization on the website after I created an account, I found the number on the Better Business Bureau website when I searched for other complaints. Without this number, the situation would have been even worse, and I have no idea how long it would have taken to complete the process with the 3 different email addresses making things incredibly confusing. I continue to be absolutely dumbfounded that this organization asks for secure passwords for private information, just to book a house.

Due to privacy violations that boggle the mind, I had to cancel my reservation and now have to make sure that I get back my payment.

Using Airbnb for the first time. I am an experienced traveler and have rented greater then 10 vacation homes in 4 countries with flipkey, homeaway, and vrbo. My primary complaint with Airbnb is that they have intercepted every communication between renter and host. Seems a bit NSA like to me. Since booking I have sent multiple emails or texts via their website to the host contact information they provide requesting information. The message, email or text, gets routed through an airbnb address automatically and without notice. My host did not respond to 4 emails and texts sent over the past months time. My trip is now close and I do not have checkin information or responses from my host. I contacted Airbnb customer service who contacted the host. He emailed me via airbnb saying he had not seen any of my correspondence and was completely in the dark. To his knowledge he is emailing my personal email, but it is filtered through airbnb somehow and the return address is an airbnb address not the hosts. I finally had to call him in England using his local number I got from the airbnb confirmation to discuss since our electronic communications were being held hostage by Airbnb. When he text me back from the same number I called, it came to my phone not as the +44 number I called but rather a +1 650 number which is Northern California or yep you guessed it airbnb. Will the apartment be there when I get there? Not sure. Will I be able to contact my host if there is a problem, like I cannot find the place or the key? Who knows. Will I use airbnb again? No way. Too much hassle for no savings over other vacation rentals.

I would recommend VRBO.com over Airbnb. On Airbnb each time it was a bit tricky coordinating meeting up with owners to let us in. Also on airbnb it doesn't allow you to make multiple inquiries...once you submit, your credit card is charged. So you basically have to inquire one place at a time. And wait for the owner to accept you before you know if you need to inquire with someone else. Where on VRBO you can make mulitple inquires and then decide after you receive all responses. Pricing is a bit cheaper on Airbnb since many don't charge cleaning fees like VRBO. Howvever Airbnb does have good guides, etc to help with planning. All in all a good option for those with patience and a little adventure, and don't mind minor surprises.

NOTHING! The provider did NOTHING! No service was provided, yet they kept my money for a month. We had to make a reservation in order to see the room. The host cancelled due to family emergency within an hour of giving us the key, and both the host and I contacted Airbnb immediately for full refund. Airbnb sat on it for a MONTH before providing a PARTIAL refund. This is FRAUD. No service was provided, yet they did not want to give us any money back until I filed a Fraud Report with our bank.
