John the electrician and owner of AJ Electric is very busy. It took some time before I received an official quote. However I did receive a rough estimate via text the day after he came to perform his estimate. He was punctual and on time the day of my appointment. He was very observant and respectful, for example he asked if he should remove his shoes before entering my home. His pricing is reasonable. His work is very thorough. He even patched up all the holes made in the closet. He came with his assistant Mike who was also a pleasure to work with.

He provided a written summary of all his findings, and while he did highlight a few areas that were concerning, i never felt the pressure to use him for any of the repair work that the report brought out. I did end up using John on the repair jobs and a few jobs afterward (adding a subpanel, adding a 220v extension, changing an exterior conduit). He was very thorough in illustrating things that differed from code, and whether they were actual issues or not (mostly not). He was also very flexible in working with our schedule, even working in the evening without extra charge.

He did a job job we thought...after he left, I checked the globe on one hanging fixture and it was cracked...the lighting store where I got the lights from said there was no way it was delivered that way...so assume he was the one that cracked it...you know, I wouldn't have been so upset if he had just told me...accidents happen...but the fact that he didn't, well...I wouldn't use him again...he's hard to get a hold of since he's really busy and a one man operation..the other work he did for me was fine...

Very well.

He came, examined both of my fuse boxes and checked all the circuits and tightened all the screws. He found a fuse that was not working (but that looked fine) and a circuit breaker that was stuck. He replaced the fuse and got the circuit breaker working. In addition he taught me how to unstick a stuck circuit breaker. He then examined my doorbell circuit, that was not working, and found that the doorbell button was the problem, and he replaced the doorbell button. He was very pleasant to work with and very efficient. I would definitely use him again.

Returned my call on the same day that I left a message for them.  They were able to fit the job in within 3 days.  Even though it was a 4:30 pm appointment they arrived within a half hour of the appointment time.  They checked out the types of replacement fixtures we needed, then went to buy the fixtures and were back within 45 minutes.  The replacement fixtures they picked were exactly the appropriate style for both fixtures and they look just right.  They replaced the old fixtures with the new ones smoothly and efficiently.  The job was done and they left by shortly after 6 pm.  They were pleasant and professional both on the phone and in person.  We were pleased with the experience and will call them the next time we need electrical work done.

He was highly recommended by the local inspector, however he wasn't always able to come during our scheduled appointments and took longer than expected to do the work. Once or twice he just didn't show up, however he did send flowers when my husband had to go into surgery and was a very nice man.

A breaker had tripped in our electric panel and all of the power in one room was out.  We tried to reset it numerous times but could not get it to turn on.  We started to think it was a bad breaker, so I called A J Electric from work at about noon.  Someone called me back within the hour, and agreed to meet me at home at 5:00pm.  John showed up promptly at 5, quickly diagnosed the problem -- the breaker switch was sticking and not resetting properly.  We asked if the breaker needed to be replaced, and he said no, we just needed to do it with more force.  Another electrician may have used the opportunity to make more money.  Since he was there we asked him to look another light switch issue we were having.  He gave us an estimate on the spot, with a 10% discount applied, and promptly emailed us the official estimate the next day.

I called this company and was lucky enough to get John the owner over to my house with about an hour.  He came in and did a very thorough troubleshooting plan, explained in terms I could understand what was happening and why it was very peculiar.  We had a very odd situation in terms of the pattern that the non-working outlets were making.  It made no sense at all, and further, no breaker had been tripped.
After about an hour of investigating, John discovered a pair of wires at my fuse box that had not been tightly paired when the last electrician replaced the box.  Apparently, these wires were barely touching, probably for years, and the vibration caused by our insulation work earlier that day cause them to finally separate - thus some outlets not working with dangerous power levels surging to the remaining working light fixtures.
While this was any easy fix, this was a really difficult issue to diagnose.  If John were not both competent and very thorough, this could have turned into a complete rewiring of our a large portion of our home.
John is my electrician for life now!  Number one he is honest - I believe he is doing business the right way by providing a valuable service/expertise for a fair price.  Number two, he is an expert.  I have a home in Parkside SF built in 1939 - John knows these old homes very well and has many years of fixing tricky wring in them.  He is clearly a very skilled and experienced expert.  Three, he is just a nice guy who explains things so I can understand and know my options - excellent customer service oriented style.  We won't ever be calling anyone else for our next electrical need or issue.

This was one of my better contractor experiences.  Mike and his assistant completed all the work in a day with absolutely no damage to any of the plaster or woodwork in my older house.  Unlike other electricians, Mike understood early on that I was not looking to rewire my entire home.  He performed clean quality work at what I thought was a reasonable to good  price.

Tech was punctual, went through entire house.  Has some concerns about wiring, tech carefully addressed my concerns and assured me everything was OK.

Original work was sloppy- installed box on wall-not recessed in wall with a conduit on the wall as well. Say a he confirmed this type of installation with my husband but my husband says he did not approve this type of work. He did come back later that week and fixed the installation by recessing the box in the wall and putting the conduit on the wall outside the house. He also installed new timers for our outside lights on that second visit and did not charge us any additional fee.

7He was on time and finished the work in a timely manner.  I had originally had him bid more work in the garage but the price seemed too high to me.  When he finished I saw that the additional work had been over bid in my estimation.  I was glad I did not have him do that work.
