So: very friendly, prompt responses to emails, not charging me for something that's not needed, did not mock me to my face about the gas cap thing. Trust and respect very much built.
I found Woods Automotive through great (and well-deserved) Angie's List recommendations 8 yrs ago and I'm finally writing my own review.
This is the best auto repair service I've ever used (in almost 50 years of driving). Mike (owner), Joy (who handles the office side & remembers everything about my car), and their team have taken great care of our 1999 Toyota Corolla for 8 yrs and our newer Honda CRV since the warranty period ended. We lived nearby at first, but now drive out of our way to use them. Excellent mechanics & diagnosticians. Thorough, honest, reliable, timely, friendly. No surprises. No overcharging. They enjoy keeping older cars in great working order. They always tell us what needs fixing, what to monitor, and what's fine as is. They've fit us in whenever we've had an urgent issue. My husband & I completely trust their judgment & their work.
Fairly significant job requiring advanced ordering of parts and scheduling a full day. Job was completed as promised for the agreed on estimate. There were no hidden fees or pop up issues which is par for the course at this shop. They pinpoint the issues, give you a very reasonable estimate and then stick to it.
If you're looking for an honest good mechanic, take your car to Woods Automotive. They are a high quality high integrity shop.
I'm moving back to the east coast and one of the things I'll miss most about living in San Diego is taking my cars to Woods! (right up there with the weather)
I paid for an Angie's list subscription in the San Diego area and there were several auto repair shops listed. I called the top three and the folks at Woods Automotive appeared to be the most friendly and open to questions so we decided to go to their shop. The quote was exactly half of what the dealershipp had quoted and when the work was done it was even a little bit less than the quote they gave.
The people at Woods Automotive are everything you would want in a repair shop. They are honest, have competitive pricing, deliver services when promised and are extremely competent in their work product. I highly recommend Woods!!!!
Recently I went to a Dealer?s service department for the following:
Oil change
Wind shield wipers
130,000 miles maintenance check
water leak
I was stunned when I was told that my car?s ?water leak? was a serious engine coolant leak that needed to be repaired ASAP. Since I wasn?t prepared that day to pay $1300 for all the repairs they said were required, I said I would have to come back in a couple of weeks. I only had $283 of the work done that day, which included replacing thermostat housing re: coolant leak (which probably wasn?t required).
Fast forward, my boss praised, Michael Dunbar, Owner of Woods Automotive, who my boss said that he and his wife had done business with Michael Dunbar for over ten years and highly recommended him. Before I called Woods Automotive, I checked with the BBB and other organizations and there was not one complaint. Their rating is A+ as well as with Angie?s List and many others. Summary: they have a stellar reputation.
Woods Automotive did a thorough check of my car and the only repair that was needed were the brake pads and rotors (same as Dealer?s recommendation). All the other repairs that the Dealer recommended were not required.
After my first visit at Woods Automotive, I called my friends and family and praised Woods Automotive for their outstanding service, reasonable prices, stellar reputation and honesty. How refreshing!!!!!!!!
.
Dealer?s Recommendations:
Fuel Combo (Throttle Body Carbon Build Up)
Brake pads and rotors
Replace Heater Hoses (Coolant Leak)
Woods Automotive?s Recommendations:
General check/bumper to bumper inspection
Brake pads and rotors
When I first dropped off my truck about 2 weeks ago, Joy came out and used the portable machine to diagnose the check engine light. She turned off the light and asked me to come back for a more thorough workup.
About that same time, I asked if someone could give me a quote for replacement of my partner's Mazda 3 headlight. Mike came out and took a look and fixed it on the spot! For free!!!!!!! So grateful.
So, I went back today for the diagnosis on my truck and the news wasn't good. I needed some major work done, which was a little unnerving because my truck only has 61,000 miles on it. Mike called and gave me a very thorough diagnosis of the problem and suggested I return it to Ford. He even consulted his database and called Ford to ask about the problem, and if they had had similar complaints. Yes, they had.
I'm so grateful to Mike for going the extra mile by calling the manufacturer and printing out the details from the Ford website. He gave some great recommendations and suggestions that I will take with me to the Ford dealership to get this all worked out.
I highly recommend Woods Automotive. It's a small location but the service I got there was A+.
I called Woods Automotive an talked to Mike Dunbar, the owner. We made an appointment for him to look at it and after the inspection, we set and talked about my car. Mike suggested some other minor repairs but I just needed the AC fixed for a trip into the heat, Nevada, Utah, Arizona in July.
Mike not only replaced my AC unit but the dryer which makes sure the air stays out of the coolant and helps prevent rust/corrosion.
He also replaced my front crankshaft seal which had been leaking oil profusely.
He replaced my oxygen sensor which was causing the check engine light to stay on.
Woods Automotive is very organized and professional. They do not take on more than they can chew. The appointment for the inspection was prompt. The inspection was thorough. In discussing suggested repairs, no pressure was placed on the customer (me), to do things not essential.
We made an appointment to do the repairs. On the day of the appointment, my car was taken in expeditiously, worked on, and returned as promised, on time. Work was clean and neat. No problems with grease, oil, etc fingerprints all over or anywhere.
I could not be happier or pleased with the service and the performance after repairs.
