Oct 2009
Solar Panel Service
It's been a nightmare dealing with SouthCoast Energy. We signed a contract in Feb 2009 and as of Oct 2009 we still do not have solar panels installed. We were lied to multiple times by the owner, Walter Ellard. One example is that Mr. Ellard failed to update the city permit, lied to us when he said the update had been submitted and blamed the city for the delay in the approval. After confronting SouthCoast with these lies they no longer answered the phone or returned calls. After learning how dishonest Mr. Ellard is, we asked to be let out of our contract in April but they refused. In addition to being dishonest, SouthCoast Energy made one mistake after another. For example, the company delayed and then incorrectly filed the CSI rebate paperwork causing us to miss the deadline for the higher rebate. They agreed in writing to pay us for this loss, but later refused. SouthCoast eventually unilaterally canceled our contract in late September after bouncing a check to a subcontractor. A subcontractor was hired because SouthCoast Energy sold us a brand of solar panels they were not authorized to install. The contract we had with SouthCoast Energy requires that we make a progress payment of $20,000 when the solar equipment is delivered to our home. Since the subcontractor has already paid for and had possession of the solar equipment, it appears that SouthCoast Energy knowingly wrote the bad check with the hope that the subcontractor would deliver the equipment and SouthCoast Energy could collect the $20,000 payment before anyone realized the check would bounce.
