Response from SDair
"This review is for January of 2011, on a house [member name removed] sold in March of 2012. This is the first we've heard of [member name removed]'s dissatisfaction. Since the review is for 3-1/2 years ago and [member name removed] no longer owns this home, we're left without options to address his concerns. Many things have changed over the last 3-4 years. We have hired additional staff, improved our training structure and are more focused than ever on providing great customer service. We recognized faults in our past, and have enacted corrections to resolve them. We apologize for any issues [member name removed] may have been unhappy with."

Mr. Slattery was very thorough at working with us to provide us with the various alternatives, the pros and cons, and the prices. He seemed to be quite knowledgeable, and went to great lengths to tell us about rebates we would receive (including changing the type of equipment to use on our project to make certain that they would qualify for ALL rebates). AFTER completing the installation of the equipment, Mr. Slattery informed me that I would not be able to get more than 35% of the heating capacity from one furnace, because he then realized that he needed to install a controller which would allow my two-stage furnace to work as designed. As a result, I now had a furnace which was inadequate to fully heat half of my home. I had to pay another $495 in order to get my furnace to work. In addition, the installation resulted in improper air flow, resulting in a buffeting noise in my master bathroom whenever the system was on. Mr. Slattery tried to fix this by reversing the two systems, and although this corrected the problem when the heat was on, the problem persists with the air conditioning running. At this point, it seems that neither Mr. Slattery nor Trane (the manufacturer of the equipment) is willing to even look at this installation to determine how to fix this problem (I have been trying through Trane, who has been in contact with Mr. Slattery, for the past 5 months). For a few months, I asked Mr. Slattery to provide the rebate forms and to complete his portion. He was cooperative, except for the rebate for the $1,000 from the State of California, which he infomed me the day prior to the expiration date that I would not qualify for. Overall, I ended up paying $1,475 more than I was lead to believe due to not receiving my rebate, which I was assured I would qualify for when Mr. Slattery sold me the system, and having to pay for a controller which was not considered in the original estimate but required for my system to work. In addition to the dollars that I am unexpectedly out of pocket, I have a system which may not be properly installed; however, neither Mr. Slattery nor the equipment manufacturer seem to be interested in evaluating this possibility.

Overall, a great disappointment. I should have gone with someone who was recommended on Angie's list; however, I made the mistake of going with a lower bid. I will not do that again.

Prior to the contract Mark was very good at explaining the details of the project, options, variables and installation. Virtually no time wasted getting started. He kept me informed of what was going to transpire and any problems encountered during the install. The workers were very experience, thorough and efficient. I was impressed at their consideration and respect for my property during the process. They did a good job of minimizing the mess of clean-up. There was a little bit of carpentry work needed at the end of the project to patch or screen off some gaps in the furnace closet ceiling. But that was not too hard for me to crawl up in the attic to do with some screening material. I just don't want a path for critters.

Mark was a great professional. After some bad experiences, I watched him work like a hawk for the hours that he was there. I literally stood behind him to make sure the work was done. He checked everything and was very knowledgeable. He explained everything he was doing to me in great detail and I was very appreciative of that. Compared to the last 2 repairmen we had in, I would rate Mark a 10 compared to 5s for the others. He fixed the temperamental overheat sensing circuit, cleaned the duct of debris, and fixed the fan circulator, which a previous technician (before we bought the house) had obviously worked on and never bothered to bolt back in place. Over time it had loosened due to the vibrations it created, and we were not getting the proper airflow through our furnace. Now we have great, constant heat, great airflow, and everything is working great! Thank you Mark!
