When it comes time to get the popcorn removed from the ceilings of our house, we'll call them. They do get the job done, and they get it done in a timely manner.
I got estimates from three companies before choosing SD Abatement Services. This company had the best price by far. And they charged me EXACTLY what they originally estimated and did everything they promised to. I'm thrilled with the quality of work--my ceilings look amazing and no more dirty popcorn to contend with. They cleaned up after themselves and everyone I spoke with was professional and courteous.
My only criticism, and it's a small one, is that I would like to see them get better with communication. When a homeowner is forced to be out of his/her house (for safety) due to work being performed by strangers, it's vitally important for the homeowner to feel secure in the knowledge that they are placing their home in good hands. The best way to do this, in my opinion, is to make sure the contractor calls with a report every single day. A short, nightly call would have gone a long way toward making me feel less anxious during this stressful time. And it would have raised my responsiveness/professionalism ratings to perfect A's, because I was otherwise very pleased with this company. A small thing, easily remedied. Definitely not a deal breaker. I'd do business with them again in a heartbeat.
The owner, himself, inspected the work and claimed that everything had been done perfectly. He further stated that we should contact the Better Business Bureau if we had any problems with the work, but we didn't want to involve any third parties in the dispute. Ultimately, the owner offered a discount of $450 to resolve the issue.
"We are the recipients of the 2011 "Super Service Award" from Angie's List. We perform, on average, 3-4 acoustic removal jobs per week and have been in business for 30 years. Unfortunately, it is inevitable that after performing 1,000's of removal/re-texture jobs with 1,000's of happy customers and excellent reviews, there will be the occasional less-than-happy customer. Though, in this case, it was not for a lack of effort on our part. First, it took an extra 1/2 day to complete the texture on this job due to high ceilings (at no additional charge) We worked through every day until completion (no absent workers). When the texture took longer than planned and still had to dry for a day, we didn't have a crew to send on Friday, so we called in guys to work over-time painting (again, at no additional charge) on Saturday. There was ALWAYS a supervisor on-site, though the customer may not have realized that one does not need to be the project manager or owner to be a supervisor. The following Monday morning we sent a guy for a full day and a half to perform miscellaneous touch-up per the owner's specification and installing new light fixtures, all in an effort to go above-and-beyond what is considered normal expectation for such a project. We repeatedly urged this owner to contact the BBB in order to bring a neutral, third-party mediator to resolve the matter. She refused and instead brought in two different contractors looking for work, to give their (very biased) opinions. It is very disappointing to find a review like this on a public website after putting in the effort to resolve this matter to our mutual satisfaction. We even went so far as to give a substantial discount. It is our hope that after factoring in "two sides to every story" and a "grain of salt" along with a large majority of positive reviews, you will not hesitate to contact us for a bid on your upcoming projects."
