Over the last two years we have enjoyed the kitchen and bathroom remodeling work and room addition that SDD&R did for us in the summer of 2016. Our family room has become our main place to hang out and the remodeled kitchen and new family room have been the center of a number of family gatherings and celebrations. Jeremy and Eric were great to work with on this project. They encouraged us to remove a kitchen wall to open it to the dining room and we are so happy we did. They also worked with us to resolve some issues we had with the original house design (i.e., replaced water lines that were in the slab with new lines through the attic, upgraded the electric circuits to the kitchen, included a raised slab for our room addition to address a grade problem in our back yard). With our initial input, they prepared suggested designs and layouts for our kitchen and bathroom remodels, and then we worked with them to revise these to exactly what we wanted in the finished product. Once these designs were finalized, they provided us with firm costs for the project, which were very competitive and a great value. They also provided us with several references at which we checked out the work that they had been done. Based on these references, we believed that Jeremy and Eric could deliver the finished product, and we liked the designs and costs, so we proceeded to contract with them. They directed us to a separate design company to prepare the drawings for the room addition. They provided us a list of what products we needed to pick out (e.g., plumbing fixtures, paint colors, tile, lighting, ceiling fans, kitchen and bathroom accessories) and a schedule for when they would need them. Also, they utilized a number of sub-contractors (e.g., tile, roof, framing, stucco, countertops, cabinets, painting) that provided great finished products. They also coordinated with several other contractors that we decided to use for flooring, asbestos removal, windows, HVAC, and Solatube installation. As in every project of this scope, there were some issues to deal with along the way, but they were quickly resolved. SDD&R gutted the kitchen and bathrooms to the studs rather than cutting and patching the drywall. We believe this made for a better finish and also allowed us to have them reinforce many of the areas in the bathrooms where we wanted to install towel racks and grab bars. The cabinets and quartz countertops we got through them are of superior quality and these were used in the kitchen and bathrooms and hallway and laundry cabinets. They even installed a cabinet in the hallway location that formerly housed our whole house heater, which we had just previously moved to the attic. This work took from the beginning of June through mid-September to complete, which was pretty close to the schedule they had provided us. They used progress payments through the duration of the project and these were based upon specific activities that had been completed. This worked out well for us. Overall, this was a project that was well run and had a quality result and we would highly recommend SDD&R to others to check out for their remodeling projects.

They did all of the gutting, drywall finishing, construction, plumbing, and new lighting. By choice, we did the wall painting. They were punctual friendly, and fun to deal with. Although they provided a design team we used to select all of the above, Jeremy and Eric were very informative and experienced on what looks good, or what does and doesn't work, because we really had no idea where we should, or could take this when we first invited them in. We looked at and considered several other Angie's listed contractors and unanimously chose San Diego Design and Remodeling. You won't be disappointed.

It went well. As to be expected, there were days when workmen were not here as we waited for any number of things like the stone fabrication or the painter or flooring guys' tight schedule. They have a group of subs that they use and they are all very professional and did great work. This is the second job they did for us. Jeremy and Eric are responsible for our wonderful master bathroom as well. There were lots of things we didn't know we wanted until they told us or they just did things we never thought about. The black electrical covers on the darker cabinets look great and are so much nicer than white ones.  Eric put in the shoe shelves exactly like I wanted in the new closet. Eric also had to construct a flooring piece so the new laundry room sink would fit into the space correctly.

The owners, Jeremy and Eric personally came to our home to discuss our project. They were open to hearing our ideas and generous with their design ideas. We had a firm plan for what we envisioned and they both moved heaven and earth to make our dream of a showcase kitchen come true. No effort was spared. At no time were we made to feel that our "crazy" ideas were unachievable. We knew that our ideas were over the top in some respects, but Jeremy and Eric didn't bat an eye. For instance we pushed the boundaries in wanting the largest reach-in pantry possible and we wanted to maintain as much natural light as possible; even if that meant  putting a picture window over the stove top!  We had an unusual focal point table/counter top idea that Eric spent an entire day helping us create and install; and it is perfect!

When it came time to have sub-contractors come in Eric was here everyday to supervise and make sure that all our needs were met. All of the sub-contractors were professional and fastidious with their work.

We were given a budget and a time line and they were able to come in on point with both. We even made adjustments and additions (family room built-in cabinets) mid project and we still hit our completion date!

Now that our project is completed we will miss seeing Eric every day. He and Jeremy have become more like family. They genuinely care about us and we have grown to feel the same way about them.  We are now looking forward to finding more home remodeling projects to have them back to make our entire home a dream come true showcase!

With great respect,

Julie & Nancy Cox

We could not have been happier with Eric and Jeremy, They both have a very good eye for design and know how to execute a project in a very smooth and non-disruptive manner. They offered us a very fair price and provided  quality work. They are always on time, always cleaned up after each day, and were VERY flexible and reasonable when it came to unforeseen issues (A separate plumber misidentified the size of a plumbing line causing a delay and added expense - Eric worked to find a solution and keep us on schedule).   We actually finished the project a couple days ahead of schedule. We spoke to about 10 contractors before choosing them and we are so glad that we waited for the right guys. If you want high end, quality work at a good price, these are your guys.

They are great. I can't be happy with these guys. We are not even looking for anybody else for the kitchen. They're gonna do the kitchen. They didn't charge us. Professionalism is an A+.

I met with Jeremy and Eric to discuss the scope of the work needed.  I had already contracted for the flooring as I wanted it to match the adjoining family room that had been installed 8 years prior.  I had also contracted for the custom cabinets.  My contract included the demo and remodel.  It also included material allowances for the granite counter tops and tile back splash.  I had no problem finding materials that I liked that fit within the allowance.
The demo was taken down to the studs and San Diego Design & Remodel worked with my two existing sub-contractors and coordinated all other aspects of the job.  Besides the counter tops and back splash, my job also required some adjustments to my existing electrical and plumbing.  They handled it all.
The entire team always arrived on time.  Jeremy kept me informed with the schedule of tasks.  They provided a rough schedule with the Scope of Work and followed it very closely.  All of the individuals that worked on my job were very professional and knowledgeable.
When I had an issue with the floor contractor that I hired, Eric was very good at keeping me calm as San Diego Design now had to adjust their work schedule to accommodate the flooring contractor that was delayed in ordering the materials for the job.
This was the best remodel experience I have ever had.  They also finished a week early.

Eric was very communicative, responsive, and on time, as were the plumber, tiler, and drywaller.  Wonderful job, and finished on time as promised.  There were a number of times when they went above and beyond to make sure the job was done perfectly and that we were pleased with the finished job.  It is clear that they care about the quality of their work, and were easy to talk to about changes we wanted.  We had heard horror stories about the unreliability of contractors, and were very pleased to have experienced none of that with Eric and Jeremy.

I met Eric and Jeremy at a Home show in August 2012.  They came to my house and discussed my ideas for the remodel.  My ideas changed several times as to the scope of my project.  They were very patient with me came back a couple of times to discuss and bid on my "new" ideas.  When I firmed up my plans, they finalized their bid and set a start date.  I was given a calendar/schedual of  all the steps and when payments were due  just before the project started so I would know what to expect and when I had to have the materials ready.    Eric stopped by and marked the wall that was coming down so that my friends and family could swing a sledgehammer to make big holes in the wall before the wall was removed.  Everything went smoothly and as planned- even the end date.
Regardless of what they were working on, the house was left clean and tidy by who ever was working on the house.  (I did have to sweep up and then fence a large dirt pile they left for filling up the gas line trench.  My puppy thought it was fun to have her own dirt pile in the middle of the house.  It was not SDD&R's fault).  All the subs were very trustworthy, respectful and did great work.  A lock box was put on my front door so the subs could come and go without me being home or waiting to let them in.  My furniture was carefully moved as needed as the project progressed.  If I was not going to be home, I put the puppy outside so she would not get in the way.
Jeremy and Eric stuck to the original bid.  There were a few change orders but they were due to my ideas.  They really thought out the project/bid before they gave it to me so there was not a need for the change orders.  Eric was very good at communicating what was going on and coordinating/explaining everything.  Eric was great at problem solving and dealing with any surprises.  The carpentry work and electrical system are perfect as is everything else!
Overall this remodel was easy and I would use Eric and Jeremy for another remodel.

The project took about 9 weeks to complete, 1 week longer that planned.  That was due to delays on the part of the granite fabricator who got busy around the time our slabs were delivered.
The demolition was thorough but careful and Eric did a good job of trying to keep the dust and mess under control. One entry way was enlarged, the peninsula counter pushed out and one soffit removed to give a more open feeling. The electrical, lighting, plumbing and ventilation changes were made, and the drywalls rebuilt. The cabinets went in quickly once delivered and they fit perfectly with only minor adjustments. They were custom made with a beautiful dark brown matte finish and matching trim on the edges and end panels.  We really appreciated the advice Jeremy provided in the design phase regarding drawers vs shelves, counter space and overall balance. The counter tops were then installed without problems and the floor was re-tiled and backsplash added. Then the new appliances were all moved in and connected.
Throughout the project, Eric was constantly on site doing the lions share of the work and supervising the work of others. He was very approachable and would respond to our concerns quickly.  Jeremy likewise was always responsive and aware of the daily progress.  We liked that they were flexible on the small things, allowing minor changes at no cost and only charging for other items after informing us of the cost and getting our approval before doing the work.
The end result really exceeded our expectations and was worth the inconvenience and expense.  We feel we got good value for the money spent.
