"Thank you very much for taking the time to write us a review. We appreciate your business and the opportunity to be of service. Best Regards, Jamie Dent, Owner, Point Loma Electric"
"Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. We appreciate your businees and your feedback and will use it to improve our operations. I remember the day of your job because there was a flu going around and we were short staffed, and we were trying to reorganize the schedule that day. Once we knew that you were unable to reschedule for a different day we made other arrangments to keep your scheduled appointment. Your technician was not feeling well, but opted to carry on and complete the work so it would not need to be postponed. I regret if there any confusion about how we price our work. We should have made sure it was clearly explained in advance. We are a flat rate company and our prices are based on each specific task or job. The pricing is independent of the time it takes and includes all labor, materials, taxes, overhead and profit. When asked for a timeframe, our techs are supposed to give a broad range for time as we never know how long something will take until they get involved. We don't begin any work without the customers written agreement in advance. Many people prefer this pricing model as there will not be any unpleasant surprises and there is no need to watch the clock. Some techs work very quickly and others at a more moderate methodical pace. We don't want our customers to pay more if a tech works at a slower pace and we also don't want to penalize techs who work extra quickly and efficiently. If we run into problems or a job takes much longer, we do not charge any more than the quoted price. However if the technician who does your work is very quick and skilled or things go extra smoothly, the price also stays the same. Our customers benefit from flat rate pricing because there are no surprises. You know exactly what your job will cost before you agree and give us the go ahead to begin. Most of our customers appreciate knowing what the total will be upfront, and if we happen to finish quicker as in your case, they are happy to have us out of their way. I am sorry if this was not explained clearly before we began. We will make sure to take more time in explaining exactly how our pricing works as many people are more familiar with being billed by the hour and not knowing what the charges will be until the work is finished. Thank you for the opportunity to be of service and entrusting the safety of your home to us. We appreciate your business very much. Jamie Dent, Owner, Point Loma Electric"
Our cooktop was not working, nor the adjacent outlets on our kitchen islands, on the advice of Angie?s list, we called Point Loma Electric though we thought their price to come out was a bit steep. My husband, an 80 year old disabled veteran, was recently discharged from the hospital. To meet his dietary requirements, I had to have access to a functioning cooktop.
Two young men promptly arrived from Point Loma Electric. They took care to put on red protective ?socks? so that their boots might not stain. They were respectful. One did the work and the other fetched the tools.
To access the electrical inputs to our cooktop, they removed the drawers beneath. The ?senior said that the wiring was put in totally wrong/ not to code. He then proceeded to install two junction boxes. (That was unlikely to be the cause of non functioning cooktop because they had been that way since we bought the house 15 years ago). He ?diagnosed? that the cooktop was defective and had to be replaced. They left with $154.00, their fee (reduced by 10% because we were Angie?s list customers.
We called an appliance outfit (another $70.00) we had heard about.
The technician said, ?No. It is not your cooktop which is defective...it is some electrical malfunction.?
Back to Point Loma Electric we went. The man came out and said that probably the whole house had to be rewired...cost $500-$1000. And since we are on a slab foundation, he didn?t know if it could be done. He went into the utility closet where the breakers are and pronounced that the four element breaker 20/40/40/20 was at fault. He would see if he had one in his truck...the price $250.00. My husband, in the interim, from the phone book called two breaker companies and they said their price was more like $21.00. We dismissed this Point Loma Electric but first, he demanded a revisit fee of $59.00. Actually, the first twosome of Point Loma Electric gave us a $50.00 gift card for future visits. My heat was up and he left without demanding any monies.
Lo and behold, the cooktop is now functioning. We think he just reset the breaker in the utility closet. That was the only ?charge? we got from Point Loma Electric.
"We are so happy that the temporary repair that Point Loma Electric originally did for your cooktop on January 4th 2013 is still working. WE strive for 100% customer satisfaction. We were called to your home on January 4, 2013 and our electricians found an open loose splice and a loose obsolete breaker and uninsulated wiring connected to your cooktop. You approved the $154 for both diagnostic and for a temporary repair to get your cooktop working. A junction box was installed to contain the splice but in order to properly and permanately repair the problem, the juntion box needed to be rewired and to replace the breaker. We never recommended that you needed to have a whole house rewire. You were informed of the recommended repair and told that this was a temporary fix. We explained to you what was involved and the cost to permanently repair the problem. ($464 after combined discounts) You declined the repair. On January 8th, you said there was an appliance repair person there who said your problem with your range was due to the electrical wiring (as we had perviously explained) and you insisted that we come back right now while the appliance repair person was sitll there. You told us that you now DID want to have the repair done that we had previously recommended. WE strive for 100% customer satisfaction and since you are an existing customer, we accomodated your request and rearranged our scheduled appointments. You agreed to have us come out to complete the repair at the quoted price. When our electricians arrived you insisted that the repair should be done for free as part of the original $154 you paid on the first service call. You declined the repair a second time and you paid nothing. It is good to know that the temporary repair that Point Loma Electric did on our first visit is still working, however we stand behind our recommendation that you have this properly and permanently repaired by another licensed electrician."

"Thank you very much for your review. Nothing makes us happier than a satisfied customer. We appreciate your business very much. Best Regards, Jamie Dent"
towards service. In December, I purchased 3 kitchen appliances from a local home improvement store, and when they were delivered and installed, the dishwasher did not work. I panicked because family was coming for the holidays, and I really needed to be able to use the
dishwasher. Called Point Loma Electric, hoping to utilize the special, and they would have come out the same day, however, because of deadlines at work, made an appointment for the morning of December 19th. Don and another gentleman showed up on time, and got right to work. The first thing they noticed was that the person who installed the dishwasher had failed to put a locknut on connection. Don said if the dishwasher had worked, it could have caused a fire. The dishwasher was on same circuit as defective GFI. The GFI was
replaced, and both the dishwasher and GFI have worked perfectly ever since. I would recommend Point Loma Electric, and plan eventually to have them redo my circuit board.
"Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are always delighted to hear that our customers are satisfied with our services. Best Regards, Jamie Dent"
"Dear sir, We are a small family run company with just a few certified electricians. Each of our licenced electricians has years of experience and is highly trained and skilled. We work very hard to provide the highest level of service for all of our customers and are fortunate to keep quite busy. We do not have salesmen to go out doing "free" estimates only our licensd electricians. An onsite estimate can take several hours of an electricians time as well as all of the expenss that go along with sending insured commercial vehicles to your home. We have only a few appointments available each day and it costs a company far more than the $59 travel fee we charge which is 100% applicable to any work we are hired to do. The young lady you told to "stick it" and hung up on yesterday has been a loyal key member of our team for several years. She is unfailingly polite to everyone no matter what. I was in the room when that conversation occured. I am sorry that you objected to our travel fee but quite glad that you will not be hiring us. We will not work for anyone who is rude and demeaning to our employees who are simply doing their jobs. Our employees are valued members of our family and we will not put them in a position to be mistreated by anyone, not even a potential customer. Thanfully 99.9% of the people we deal with do not treat people the rude and vulgar way you acted yesterday on the phone towards our valued, comitted, hard working team member. Jamie Dent, Owner, Point Loma Electric"
"Dear Member, Both Jim and I were very upset upon reading this review. We have both reached out to speak with you and appreciate your time. It is our electricians job to look for and find any potentially dangerous situations. Your service call was back in August and we are just learning of this in January. In reviewing the records of your service call we can see that the technician noted that your panel was an obsolete brand that was full but I don't know if he did or did not recommend replacement at that time. We will generally recommend replacement of obsolete panels in poor condition and will almost never suggest band aid repairs for those situations. Unfortunately too much time has passed to get an accurate accounting of exactly what was or was not discussed during your service call. So we will assume the error was ours and deeply apologize for any inconvenience. For any Angies list members reading this: PLEASE if you ever have any problems, concerns or issues about our service, our electricians or anything, Please DO pick up the phone and call us. We are a small family run company and we take your 100% satisfaction very seriously. We have a satisfaction guarantee and will do everything in our power to make sure you are 100% happy. Due to this review and in order to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again, we are changing our proceedures as follows: We have created a new Panel Inspection form that our electricians will be required to fill in to assure that all areas are carefully checked and evaluated. They will also take a photograph of the panel for inclusion in our customer files. Although we regret seeing a negative review of our company, we will use this as a learning experience to try and prevent issues in the future and improve the level of service we offer our customers. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Jamie Dent, Owner"
"We are glad he caught the problem! That is exactly what the safety checkups are designed for. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you. We appreciate your confidence and look forward to working with you again in the future. Jamie Dent"
When they came out they performed a very thorough inspection and found several problems with the previous work - some of which were very dangerous. I was extremely impessed with the level of knowledge and expertise in electrical work. They were able to explain in great detail, without hesitation what exactly needed to be done. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing electrical work.
"Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you and expecially for your very nice review. We appreciate your business and look forward to working with you in the future. Best Regards,Jamie Dent, Onwer"
"Thank you for the opportunity to be of service and for placing your confidence in our company. We appreciate your business and hope we can be of service in the future. Best Regards, Jamie Dent, Owner"

"Thank you so much for your very nice and detailed review. It means more to us than we can say. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service and look forward to working with you again if you ever need electrical work. Glad to hear that SDGE was able to resolve the issue on their end. Best Regards, Jamie Dent"
"Dear Member, I am very sorry to see this review of our services as we strive for 100% customer satisfaction. Our records reflect, and I confirmed with the electrician who was at your home that the following work was done: Hung a chandelier in your entryway which was over 10' high He did some diagnostic/ troubleshooting in your kitchen to determine why a receptacle was not working and found that you had a bad GFI. You declined repair. Then he did more diagnostic for your outdoor pillar lights to determine why they were not working. He found that there was no power coming to them from the electrical lines buried in the ground. You declined additional troubleshooting to determine where the problem is located in the wires under ground. At your request the electrician removed the old fixtures on the pillars and replaced them with new ones since they had a nicer appearance than the old ones. The amount that you paid to hang the chandelier, for diagnostic work in both your kitchen and for your outdoor lights and to remove 2 old fixtures and install 2 new ones after the $50 Angies List big deal discount was $261. Our regular flat rate book prices for the all of the work that was done in your home was $656.30. The "Big Deal" offer clearly stated in bold type that diagnostic and repair work were not included in the $49 big deal. We regret if there was any misunderstanding. Our electrician confirmed that he did discuss this with you in advance of doing any work in your home and he did obtain your approval before doing anything as is our policy. Our company and Angies list will gladly refund any money paid for big deals if the customer does not feel it is a value for them, no questions asked. Whenever a customer is not completely satisfied with our service I ask 3 questions: What happened? What can we do to make it right with you? How can we avoid this in the future? We take our satisfaction guarantee seriously and will do what is necessary to make this right with you. We do feel that considerable value was delivered for the price you were charged and regret if you believed that $49 included all of the work that you desired. I have left you a message and will continue to try and reach you to discuss this with you. Since our company policy is 100% satisfaction, we will do whatever it takes to ensure your satisfaction with the work we did. Sincerely, Jamie Dent, Owner, Point Loma Electric"
""Dear Sir, I am responding to this review within 10 minutes of receiving notification of the review. We check our emails and respond within 24 hours 7 days a week. We most certainly do service the San Marcos area. You claim to have sent an email and never received a response and that is the reason for leaving this negative review, however in searching our email in box as well as the spam folder I see no email inquiry with the name listed on this review. We do service the San Marcos area and are eager for every opportunity to serve all customers. Especially from Angie's list. We work very hard to earn business from our customers and take our 100% satisfaction guarantee very seriously. As we have no record of ever receiving any correspondence from you and have not had any contact with you seems rather unfair that there is now a review with such a low rating on our profile. While email is a fairly reliable means of communication, it is not always the ideal. I am willing to bet if you check your "drafts" folder or "outbox" you may find your correspondence there. I spoke with Angies List representatives as well and they confirmed that there is no record of you initiating contact with us via Angies List either. Had we actually received an email from you, we would most certainly would have responded to your inquiry promptly. Thank you, Jamie Dent, Owner Point Loma Electric""
"Dear Member, Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on the phone today. As I mentioned, we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and we take that very seriously. All of our employees are committed to creating satisfied repeat customers so a C rating on Angies list is a "fail" in our eyes. I asked 3 questions: 1. What happened during your experience with us? 2. What could we have done differently? and 3: What can we do now to make it right? Based on our conversation, it sounds like the issues were vague and non specific and it may just be that you and the tech had different personality styles and senses of humor. When I asked what we could have done differently you told me that as a general rule, you typically give C ratings for someone who doeas an ok job but they have to be really over the top to earn a B or better. I apologize that we were not able to earn that status with you, but we know we won't always acheive superstar status with everyone. All we can do is try. Your repair was thankfully a simple one so there was not much opportunity to really shine that time. For my question of "What can I do to make it right?" I offered to refund some or all of your money as a gesture of good will. We really do take the satsifaction guarantee seriously. You graciously declined and said that our follow up on your experience helped improve your perception of the experience. We appreciate all feed back as each experience gives us an opportunity to improve for the future. Thank you for giving us a try and for taking the time to speak with me. Sincerely, Jamie Dent, Owner Point Loma Electric."
