Milt Friedman
We have a gas fired water heater in the basement of our home, which was replaced in 2007 by one of the large plumbing companies in San Diego. On July 5, following a warranty service call on the water heater, I noticed water droplets on top of the water heater coming from a 1/2 inch cold water line above the heater. (This water line is independent of the water heater; it does not supply cold water to the heater.) Rather than contact the plumbing company, who had installed and serviced the water heater, I decided to use Angie's List and phoned Nexus Plumbing for a service call. The following day, July 6, Anthony Ruiz (dba Nexus Plumbing) arrived on time. When Anthony opened the door to the water heater closet, he said, and quot; I smell gasand quot; and identified the source as the 1/2 inch gas shut-off valve to the water heater. He proved this to me by spraying the valve and all the other gas connections to the water heater with soapy water. A non-ending stream of bubbles came from the stem of the shut-off valve. Regarding the water line, Anthony identified a pin hole leak in the 1/2 inch copper line located in the joists above the water heater. He gave me a quote to repair the water line and replace the gas valve that I thought was very fair. I expressed concern about the use of a torch to repair the copper water line, because of a significant amount of electrical wiring in close proximity to the water line. Anthony assured me he would be careful and protect the wiring from any damage. Within an hour, he repaired the water line and replaced the gas valve. i was impressed with the quality of the entire job and his beautiful soldering work. (Some plumbers use lots of heat and solder flux, instead of properly cleaning copper pipe before soldering.)Anthony Ruiz is a gem of a plumber. He's very professional (intelligent, experienced and conscientious) personable, well-adjusted and a good listener/communicator. I almost look forward to calling Nexus for my next plumbing project !!
