Nader arrived at the desired date and time.He took one look at the desired location for the door and stated that the location we wanted to use was the California legally mandated "sheer" wall. He then explained why the particular location would be very difficult to install a door. The entire visit was very brief- no more than 20 minutes. He quoted me a price for the engineering and drafting that seemed excessive. (I presumed it was because he had to drive ~50 miles from his office to my house) He did not take any pictures. In fact, he had me email him pictures of the house after I asked (via email) if it would be easier to install the doors where an existing picture window was. In the end, we used another professional engineer because his fee was $1000 less for the same work. The problem began recently which is why this review is so late. Nader began harassing the contractor for a "site visit fee" of $400. Again, there was no mention of fee or any contract signed (my thought was that any site visit fees would be folded into the bid). I communicated to Nader that I felt this fee was excessive, and that the other engineer charged me $225.00 and spent over an hour measuring, taking photos and more importantly educating me on what exactly a sheer wall is. I offered him the same fee of $225, which I thought was excessive and incredibly generous. He continues to pressure the contractor for $400 stating it is his minimum fee. My sense is that he realizes that he isn't going to get the job, and he is trying to get any money he can. I think this demonstrates an incredible lack of integrity and as such I would NEVER use his services, nor in good conscience recommend him to fellow Angie's listers.
Description of Work: We have been planning a very expensive backyard remodelling project for quite some time. The cornerstone to the project is a set of French doors installed in the side of the house. There currently isn't an opening and given the new California laws regarding earthquake proofing structures, the contractor thought it would be a good idea to have to have an engineer look at the house. There wasn't any mention of fees, nor was any contract presented or signed. We thought it was a courtesy visit to determine if any engineering needed to be performed in order to cut the hole for the door..
