The job began in mid-September with the ordering of my custom cabinets. My kitchen designer was Patty. Nothing has gone right, and of this date almost three months later, my kitchen remodel is still NOT complete.
My cabinets, which Home Depot were ordered through Thomasville, were done in about three weeks. It took another week for them to be delivered, and another week for New Life Construction, Home Depot's contractor, to come out and open the boxes and inspect the cabinets. The inspection revealed the wrong door design on the upper cabinets, damaged inside to an upper cabinet with dual doors, which also had a broken door, and another damaged door. I decided to keep the wrong upper cabinet doors but the damaged ones had to be replaced, which added another three weeks to the project. New Life Construction had previously informed me that they couldn't start the job until all cabinets arrived, so I waited.
About a week before the replacement cabinet and doors were to arrive, New Life Construction called to let me know when they could install the cabinets, which was an additional two weeks because they assumed I needed the time because I was doing my own demolition of the old kitchen. I informed them that the demo was already 2/3 done and I didn't need that long to complete the demo, but they didn't have anything sooner. Then, the Thursday before the scheduled install date that following Monday, they called me to come out that day to install the cabinets. When I told them that the replacement cabinet and doors hadn't arrived yet, I was told that they could easily work around it. This is after being told that they couldn't start the job until all cabinets were on-site. So basically, my kitchen cabinets could have been installed in October when they initially arrived and not the end of November. I had to remove my dining table to have space to stack all the cabinets in the dining area, which was a huge inconvenience. Having them installed in October instead of the end of November would have made a big difference. When the replacement cabinet and doors were delivered, they had the original door design that I had picked, which didn't match the other upper cabinets. New Life Construction installed the mismatched doors and didn't even inform me of the problem prior to installing them.
Moving on to the countertops purchased at Home Depot through Arizona Tiles, I brought my invoice into Arizona Tiles to pick out the slab I wanted. My invoice clearly showed I had purchased 2 cm thick granite countertops. However, the slabs they brought out were 3 cm thick. I didn't know this until I got a call from Patty informing me what had happened and that were was an additional cost.
Patty also informed me that New Life or Thomasville wanted to come out and take pictures to verify what had happened, as if I was
trying to get away with having additional doors or something. Being highly upset over all the mistakes that had happened, I went Patty at Home Depot to voice my frustration. She wasn't in so another kitchen designer took down the information. I tried following up with Patty via email, but no response. I called her to discuss the problem and to make sure New Life Construction would be out here before Christmas to finish up their part. All I got was an abrupt conversation telling me to deal with the contractors myself.
So, to date, I don't know if the mismatched cabinets doors were ever reordered, and I'm dealing with all contractors myself from where Home Depot already got their money from me, so they could care less about all the problems I'm having. If I'm having all these issues from just a small remodel, I can't image what someone with a large kitchen is going through from dealing with them!
