I stressed the need to "fast track" the plan process as I was on a fairly tight schedule. Debbie agreed to produce plans and submit within 4-5 wks. with a target for receiving permits from city within 8 wks. Calls to her during the process went un-answered. Occasionally she would email me stating everything was going fine, yet I saw no progress. After catching her lying about progress several times (the city keeps great records), I finally had to fire her. She wound up taking 4 months of my valuable time and only getting an initial submittal accomplished. I had to beg her to send me the work she had done to that point. After another 2 weeks, she finally sent the red-lined plans that had not been touched (re-worked) since the city had performed their initial plan check a full month and a half prior. Did I receive plans? Yes. Are they worth anything? Currently, no. They might be salvageable by another Drafter after I spend more $. What I can't get back though, is my 4 months and $ lost.
Description of Work: Drafting and design services for home remodeling (not an actual Architect). Hired to draw up remodeling plans, submit to city for plan check, revise plans per plan check, re-submit, and continue to work with city to obtain final building permits. Actual costs: $2000 up front, $800 direct to a structural engineer, and another $1000 to the city for submittal. Purpose of the remodel was to move my girlfriend into my home so she did not have to rent anymore (at $2K/Month). As for the question above "Did the company perform work?", some work was done, but not what we agreed to nor when we agreed to it.
