CORREIA CONTRACTING INC

We hired Mr. Correia to do an addition on our home. We had plans from an architect which called for moving some walls around, digging up the concrete, lowering the dirt and building a new patio so water could no longer get into the foundation. Mr. Correia was given construction plans for this and a new pitched roof, an attic, and a porch which would aesthetically be enhanced and tie into the new pitched roof. Mr. Correia did not provide us with a legal contract. He did not provide us with a timeline for what he was doing and completion. He 'showed up" every Friday for his paycheck ("progress payment") without telling us what progress we were paying for. Mr. Correia told me we did not need permits. He said he was a legal authority on the matter of permits and they were not necessary for my job. I didn't care either way about permits because I knew they weren't expensive to obtain. I wasn't in a hurry to have the job started either. In any case he was told by my architect he needed to pull permits. Again and again he denied this to her and to me. In addition to not providing me with a legal contract, a legal remodel, he did very sub par work. His carpenters were unskilled laborers who spoke almost no English. The electrical contractor who worked on my job told me all the ways Mr. Correia set out to defraud us and overcharge us, while preforming terrible workmanship. He had a not to exceed price of 199k which he exceeded by 33,000.00 although he never built the roof, the attic, the porch, the vaulted ceilings or the patio as was bid-upon. He bastardized our house; it's illegal now; and he overcharged us. I have taken him to the California State Licensing Board and he is going to be sued by them for all the things he did to us. We are trusting people he took advantage of. I am grateful to the Investigators and the building inspector from the CSLB who are now crafting their case to be tried in Court. Do not hire this man. He is an unscrupulous liar.
