After the measurements were complete, Bryan took time to show me an example of his main line of windows and to sell me on the features and benefits. So far, so good!
After that, I pointed out areas of concern that I had about some singular features of my home that might take a little custom work in order to complete a quality installation. Bryan spoke knowledgeably about how his installers would treat each individual area, easing my concerns.
After all of my questions were answered, we parted amicably, with Bryan promising to have a quote to me within a couple of days.
Weeks later I learned (and confirmed) that, though Bryan had emailed a quote to me, I never received it...and I never received his follow-up email either. Because I never got a chance to review his quote, I didn't hire him to replace my windows, but I'd certainly suggest that you should give Bryan a chance to bid on your project.
The actual installation of 23 windows, 3 sliding glass doors & 2 garden windows took three days. There was a crew of four young men who were also very professional, friendly and prompt. They were always courteous in answering my questions. They arrived each morning at the time they indicated and promptly went to work. I was present at all times to allow access to all the units and oversaw the entire project for the HOA. I much appreciated the installers courtesy and friendliness and thanks to Joe, Robert, Fabian and Daniel, as well as to Pamela and the office staff who assisted throughout.
The price I noted is for my only my unit with four windows and a garden window; I do not feel it is appropriate to share other owners information regarding price, but all units were $2,000-$3500 per unit.
I would recommend this company and their employee to the highest degree. I was personally impressed!!
We did have a slight problem with the installation part of the door....handles installed a little uneven and the door needed extra sanding and stain in some areas but Bryan sent his guy back out in a timely manner and it was taken care of to our liking. I would definitely call Clear Concepts again because they are an A++++ company to work with!
I called and scheduled an appt. The salesperson, Pamela, met with me. She was the 2nd of 3 quotes. I started the day with no information about windows, so I was very pleased that all 3 of the sales people I met with were friendly, helpful and provided me with a lot of information. I really liked Pamela; she was friendly and seemed knowledgeable about windows.
I started by explaining that the purpose of replacing my windows was that we hated the look of the window frame and the overall appearance and I pointed out the dry rotted wood in the sill. I said we thought we’d have to do a complete tear out and rebuild since we wanted to replace the wood around the window and had stucco guys standing by for as soon as the windows were done – I further explained I was flexible about what type of window I wanted. I liked the current casement style, but I wasn’t married to them. All 3 vendors, including Pamela, said “new construction” was unnecessary. Each provided me with suggestions on how to resolve my problems. In Pamela’s case she said that the casement windows would be really heavy and if I wanted to go with the casements, they could keep the window sill (with dry rot) but cover it with a slope adaptor which would protect it, but she recommended I consider going with the standard California sliding window style. She stated that would look nice and they would cut off the sill flush with the wall and then the “casing” (what I think of as a frame) would go around the edge of the window and look nice. She looked across the street and pointed out a house with the type of window she was explaining and said, “like that one”. I looked and I liked the look of that and said I would be willing to get rid of the sill. She grabbed brochures and samples from her car and wrote up my quote. She showed me how I could get a more elaborate casing around the window, but I didn’t want to go with anything too decorative, and chose to just have the simple casing/frame. We were also replacing a window in our bedroom with a standard single hung.
After reviewing the quotes with my husband, we decided to go with Clear Concepts and Pamela’s recommendation of the sliders. In part, I went with Clear Concepts due to their low price. I usually do not select the lowest price because I believe you get what you pay for, but in this case, not only were they the lowest, but the second lowest bidder told me he couldn’t do the single hung the way we wanted in the bedroom, and I really felt like I connected with Pamela, which is important to me. Because the quotes were so much lower than expected, I called Pamela to let her know that we wanted to go with the windows as quoted, but also wanted to add our living room windows and asked if she could come back to measure those.
Due to scheduling, she came on an evening that I wasn’t home, but met with my husband. It was our understanding, since we had already agreed on our other windows was that Pamela would measure and add on the cost of the living room windows. However, while she was there, they called me to ask about the design of the window for the bedrooms that we had already discussed. Apparently she hadn’t noted that on the quote, so I told them exactly what we wanted, which she and I had decided together during our first meeting. They then called again to ask if we wanted casing around the living room windows, which I did not.
I had to take a day off work to meet with the person who was going to re-measure my windows. I didn’t know why they had to come and measure again. When the man came and measured the windows, he was done quickly. Later that night when we opened our bedroom window we found the screen on the window bent up so that it wouldn’t close right. We use our window every night and noticed that this was new. Worse, several days later, we found our living room window not only unlocked but OPEN. I take responsibility for not checking all of the windows after he left, but this is crazy. Who leaves someone’s window OPEN? I was told later that this was the owner of the company
Three and a half weeks later I came home to find my new windows installed… and I cried. I pretty much saw the exact same look that we started with, with the exception my unique casement windows had been replaced by sliders. There was no frame/casing around the window. My DRY ROTTED sill was still there as was the ugly little wood pieces around the window. I was very upset. Even if we didn’t spend what we thought we would, I still want what I expected. I called and left a message for Pamela to call me in the morning.
In the morning when she called, I explained the situation. She was kind on the telephone and calmed me down and said she was going to contact the owner to see what could be done, but that she would call me back in an hour. Four hours later I received a call from David, who identified himself as the owner’s son. I went through the story with him. He kept telling me that I didn’t order a casing. I erroneously called it a frame because being a window novice, that was how I think of it, but he set me straight and so I explained that yes, of course I ordered it with the casing. I had to tell the story several times before he finally said he would come and look to see what could be done. Then he wanted to come during the week. Since I work 80 miles from home, I couldn’t just meet him on my lunch hour, so now I was also asked to take more time off work. Finally he agreed to come by on Saturday morning.
When he arrived on Saturday, he brought Pamela. The first part of the meeting was me saying she told me what I know she told me and she saying she never said any of the things she said. At one point, she told me that she said the neighbor’s window would be how it would look if we did new construction… what I had initially ASKED for and that she talked me out of by using them as an example. She also kept going on about how she was trying to save me money. I never asked her to give me the cheapest product out there. When I’m ready to buy, I want the best product for the money I can spend and I don’t need a salesperson to make that decision for me, but that opened my eyes because clearly her goal was to get me to the cheapest price as a carrot. It was bizarre and I was getting very upset after being told by a vendor that I was crazy and didn’t know what I was talking about. I’m not a stupid person and I do not appreciate being told I am. While I don’t know windows, I have worked in the construction industry. I’ve never experienced service this bad. I finally asked my husband to please handle the situation because I was not able to communicate with these people. In David’s defense, if my employee insisted something happened a certain way I would stand up for them and believe them over a stranger, however she either is very forgetful (my husband’s hospitable suggestion) or she is lying. Either way, I was insulted by these people. After I excused myself from the situation, she kept arguing and said my husband shouldn’t have signed the contract since he didn’t know what I wanted. The quote for those windows was done before she ever met him. All that changed were the windows added to the quote, which were done correctly, so what she said made ZERO sense. Perhaps, her quote should include more detail so she doesn’t forget what she is quoting. I noticed that when she wrote the final quote adding the new windows, there were NO details or breakdown, just a total price. I will require a very detailed quote for all future projects. Call that my error, for not requiring that to start with. David told my husband he thought they could use some pieces of framing to go around the window and cover the sill with a sill cover and he would go back and get some pieces together and
