I had a fence between my house and my neighbor?s property. On my side of the fence there was a cinder block wall that went up about half way and my neighbor?s side had a chain-link fence that went up about 8 feet. I wasn?t really happy with looking at the chain-link fence because it was an eye-sore. Allen drilled into the cinder block, attached these four by fours with lag bolts, secured it like this special epoxy-type stuff so that it was really not going to move and then built a fence using those four by fours every 6 feet, so that when I look now, I see a nice red wood or cedar fence and not chain-link. When the deck was redone, the old railing was thrown away and taken to the dump. It was like a bunch of metal pipes that were kind of cut to fit the exact dimensions of the deck but they were really heavy. They had been secured to the walking surface of the deck which I think was part of the problem with the water getting down in there. Allen put in some supports that were mounted to the vertical wall below the deck, and so they went down about 3 ft. and went up about 4 ft. He built a railing around the deck which was really cool. It is wood in the middle and is sandwiched on the sides with plastic, corrugated material, and so it is non-transparent. It gives me some privacy when I am up there, and people out on the street cannot look directly into the enclosure. There was a crack in the ceiling. He made his guys go up there and repair the crack, put the texture tape up there, patch it up and painted it so that it was not visible anymore. I had some issues with the drainage in the backyard. There was an old French drain that wasn?t really serving its purpose. He blasted out a hole in the retaining wall so that water could drain through and go out into the street. I paid about $5000 for the job. I thought that his bill was going to be higher because as we were going along, I had to make a few changes in the design but he didn?t really charge me for any of the extra things. I would rate him highly and would use him in the future, if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Allen Porter Construction to build a fence and to put up a wood railing around my deck. He repaired a crack in the ceiling and also fixed a drainage problem in my backyard.
