Would not recommend Nick Construction for a remodel. Did not: 1. Did not put plumbing under house (instead put through roof) 2. Did not clean attic from roof plank removel (did myself) 3. Did not finish crawlspace access area 4. Did not put felt on roof in time to prevent roof OSB damage and floor OSB damage 5. Did not put toilet correct distance from toilet 6. Did not put tub water spout in center (until I asked him to) 7. Did not put nail protection for water pipes going to bathroom Did: 1. Charge me accordingly by installments, but had extra to pay for some services. Fair enough. 2. Fix things after I hounded him to, but not always (see above) 3. Price was reasonable. Unfortunately, hard to find GOOD contractors. My experience as a house renovator is that the building profession is totally unregulated. Try to avoid advertised folks through ServiceMagic.com I do not trust them. Try to work through word of mouth and try to be on site when working. You must be involved to get a good job.
Description of Work: I found these guys on Servicemagic.com. Do not trust this site. I believe these contractors pay to be on this site and there is no monitoring of their work. A salesman, Jim, came to my place to give me a quote. I thought that he was the contractor at first, but learned that he "represents" the contactor, Nick Construction. He seemed nice and offered advice and I trusted him thinking that the contractor would be as well. The funny thing is that I paid him $1000.00 up front and he disappeared. I thought he'd somehow be involved in the whole process overlooking the employees, but this is not the case. I believe this is his "commission" from the contractor. I did pay in installments. When Nick started working on my house, I immediately started noticing sloppy work. Things not level, plumbing was supposed to go under house in crawlspace (his plumber quit) and instead went through roof, roof felt not put on house when raining and just covered with tarp that blew all over the place, ceiling not level in bathroom, toilet too close to tub (I moved myself with a plumber friend), crawlspace access unfinished (finished myself), roof OSB lifted on edges because not covered with felt and water fell on the OSB causing it to lift on edges, rotating roof vents not completed properly (fixed myself), etc. The sad thing is that this guy could do a good job, but plain lazy and uncaring. As a result, I would not recommend him. Beware!!!
