We are renovating and needed to get rid of an old recliner which needed to be retired and also to get rid of a couch which was also a queen-sized hide-a-bed that had for 38 years (a very, very heavy piece of furniture). I needed someone who would come into the home and haul these pieces away. We had contemplated doing it, but we are getting older now, and the hide-a-bed was tremendously heavy, too much for both of us at our ages. I am aware of how important it is to hire a service provider who carries workers' compensation insurance. An initial internet search gave me a few choices, none with workers' compensation insurance. However, one company did say they had this insurance, but I could not verify though the WCIRB website through various search methods, and the person in charge of that department was not at work when I called in the middle of the afternoon. Further searching led me to realize I may not be able to find a company with this insurance. I contacted a company who would do the job for $140 and would send two "associates," but without workers' compensation insurance. I finally did a search through the WCIRB website using key words like "hauling" to find a company with comp insurance. Long's Trash Hauling came up, and the site named the insurance carrier. I texted Mr. Long late in the afternoon this week Tuesday, and he texted me back within minutes. He indicated he did have workers' compensation insurance. He had a couple of questions for me, whether this was a residence and if the furniture was on the ground floor or not, and then he quoted me $150. He had an opening Thursday morning (two days later), and we scheduled. He then asked me how I found him, and I explained my search through WCIRB and how I know it is very important to hire a service provider with workers' compensation insurance or suffer the consequences and nightmare of being involved in a workers' compensation lawsuit if a worker is injured on my property. He texted me Thursday morning and asked if he could show up 20 minutes early, as they were running early, which was even better for us. They were courteous, professional, and got to work promptly, being careful of my oak floor in one room. If needed, they were going to dismantle the hide-a-bed, but that was not necessary, and they were able to carry it out to their trailer intact. He gave me his business card, and I paid the $150. They were onsite ten minutes or less and were on their way, leaving behind two very happy customers. We will use them again without hesitation.
