We use Grateful Dog Daycare. We take them there a few times a week. They are daycare. They are friendly and reasonable as far as price is concerned. They are very good. I am very satisfied. They are friendly and they are good.

Beautiful haircut, fair price. Daycare is wonderful. It's not a fancy set-up, but my dog is always very excited to be there. Robert (the owner) understands dogs the way few people do and he personally interviews client--- both dog and owner--- to see if they will be a good fit. The dogs are always supervised and always have someone to play with them. I know this because even though my dog is often anxious and shy around strangers, he recognizes all of their regular employees and considers all of them his friends. I've noticed that there seem to be many doggy daycares with impressive, expensive facilities, but the dogs are never impressed. What Grateful Dog specializes in is human attention, quality of care, and quality of play time. My dog goes to their daycare about once or twice a week and it has done a lot to help relieve of us of the stress of his puppyhood. :)

Great! I have worked with Grateful Dog since about early 2011 and previously used the service 3-5 days a week. I started up a few months after adopting my extremely healthy 1 year old (very smart, cute and spoiled) poodle-chi-mutt Margo. Dog daycare at least a few days a week works for me because I hate waking up early, and keep long hours on the job. I don't always have the energy for a walk after work each night, but Margo got anxious and chewed on baseboards when left alone. She was going to a popular East Sacramento doggie day care facility prior to Grateful Dog. I changed because the other day care always wanted me to "keep her home for a few days" due to cough despite multiple vet clearances. They also kept small dogs in a office the size of a large walk-in closet most of the day, with a few walks. It turns out she had reverse coughing, a common problem in mini-mutts, but the owner and in-house trainer weren't accustomed to small dogs. The change was a good decision.
Grateful Dog was terrific from day one. I was able to submit the enrollment application via e-mail. The location is fab if you work in Downtown Sac, even from the American River Bike Trail. Robert, the owner, performed a thorough temperament test with three dogs of varying levels of activity and personality. This was impressive- it made me feel that he cared if my dog fit and could handle the day care setting. The staff is young, but always cheerful and professional. It's clear Robert and the manager (Mary) set a great example, holding them to a high standard. The shop is always clean and I have never perceived a "kennel" odor anywhere in the facility. This is an owner who really "minds his business", and the attention shows. Margo's tail wags when I get off the freeway at 16th street and she loves going to "school". She even tries to walk back in when we leave at the end of the day. The staff know her by name, and she reacts like she loves them all.
Margo stayed for boarding a few days when I had a business trip. This place is 100% crate/cage free overnight boarding with a human attendant 24 hours. Because I was a day care client, I received a discount. I loved the fact that they gave me a report card on how she played with the other dogs during the day, whether she ate her meals and where she slept (on the human bed of course). Margo reverted on house training when she stayed at a boarding facility that used cages, but not when she stayed at Grateful Dog!
They also sell high end dog food, treats and good quality, earth-friendly doggie gear. Robert has even ordered food in a bag size that he usually doesn't carry just for me. I had to stop using that brand because my Margo got a bit too fat on it (vet's orders :) ), but the service was a great convenience.
I stopped using Grateful Dog temporarily after fostering two dogs who were unfit for day care due to temperament and health issues. I also thought the cost of $30-32 each for two dogs would be too much for me. Since then, I adopted a formerly stray 3-4 year old schnauzer mix (Fritz the Merry Blue Mutt, who looks like a Kerry Blue Terrier). He and Margo were fast friends who loved to bark and chew my shoes while I was at work. After a horrible experience with another, cheaper day care, I came back to Grateful Dog with both of my babies. By that time Fritz was fully house trained and had some indoor manners under his belt. He was able to keep Margo company without incident. It's been practical to bring them to Grateful Dog 1-2 days a week using a 10 day pass for $280.00 each month (2 dogs, 5 days per month). Now they both love to go to "school". Wild man Fritz is always worn out and lays on the den rug after we get home.
In short, Grateful Dog is a wonderful option if you choose dog day care. They will love your pet and your pet will love you for it. I've haven't used the grooming or the dog wash.

They provide a very caring, enjoyable, environment for the dogs. We left our dogs over night during holidays. They are happy when we pick them up. They put them all in a room and they actually have people sleep in the room with them. The dogs can sleep on the floor, the bed, or the couch, wherever they want to sleep. They can sleep with the person whose baby sitting them. They just have a great time. It is a very interesting place. They are very professional about it. They check out the dogs ahead of time to make sure everyone is compatible. They keep the big dogs separate from the little dogs. The dogs that play well together, they group them. They just do a lot for them.
