We were thrilled with everything he did. Complete satisfaction. We would definitely recommend him.

David sent two of his guys to determine where the water was coming in along the side of the house. They spent about two hours doing a thorough inspection of room and side of house using a hose. Carefully moved furniture, baseboard and carpet and returned furniture. It was determined that the problem was with stucco and flashing. Dave recommended a stucco guy and that's when the job fell apart. I had to bug the stucco guy for a week before he called me back. He came and looked at the job and said he would send me an estimate. It never arrived. When I called to ask about it he forgot to do the estimate and couldn't even remember coming to my house or what the job was. I told him don't bother, I will find someone else. The failure was the stucco guy, but David Hoppe never followed up to see if the job was done so he could fix the drywall inside the house.

We engaged him as our general contractor to remodel our family room. He
had previously removed the popcorn ceilings in our entire house by first
removed all the stuff from the affected rooms, removed the popcorn
texture, re-plastered and painted them, and moved all the stuff back
into the rooms. We trusted him because of our previous experience. We
had David get the competitive bids from the sub contractors he knew. He
picked ones that matched our needs and had the best quotes. He always
met the sub contractors when they arrived in the morning and checked
their work when they left. Because he only takes jobs close to his home
office, we could always get him over to our house within 30 minutes and
usually within 15 minutes.

We started this project by searching for a general contractor we could trust and with whom we could work. David had done small jobs for us before such as supervising the replacement of our water heater with an instant heater, but not something as extensive as this. David likes to keep his projects close to his home/office. This worked well for us because he could always get to us withing 15 minutes from his other job sites. David got the competitive bids from subs he had used before and trusted. He said they always knew they had to do good work or he would never use them again. He always took our side in getting any corrections or changes done.
We gave him our scope of work document, a single page of about a dozen items we wanted done, E.g. Solid wood maple floor,
remove popcorn ceilings, upgrade house LAN to cat6, remove faux stone fire place, install new EPA rated fireplace. We also gave him a sketch and floor plan of the family room. He turned these into jobs for the different subs and put together a proposal with costs for us to revise and finally approve.
David always kept us informed about timing of work and did a good job of supervising the subcontractors. He met them at the start of each day and checked their work at the end of each day. There was a problem with the work done by one of the workers and he dealt with it promptly getting the sub to send out a more experienced worker. Other than that, all the subcontractors he hired did excellent work. The flooring contractor replaced our floor vents with ones that are flush to the flooring and made nice wood frames to go around them - something that we didn't know to ask for and a very nice touch. The fabricator who did the stone work at the fireplace did excellent work with very tight seams. These subcontractors were selected by David.
All tools, supplies and debris were cleaned up at the end of each day. When we told him that our grandchildren were visiting on the weekend, he went to extra efforts to make the area safe.
We originally had told him that we wouldn't need a backing board for the TV mount (which we were installing, not part of the contract). When we discovered that we did need one, he came over to install it the next day so that it could be in place and drywall replaced over it in time to not delay painting. He is willing to go to extra effort to make sure that things work for the client.
The pricing for the original work was reasonable. Change order pricing was handled very reasonably.
