It was the best and smoothest move we've ever had.in the last 30 years. Chipman Relocation Services works a bit differently than all the other movers because they base their price on volume (cubic feet of space) the load takes plus the cost of various boxes required, instead of the gross weight of the load. Brian Essary, the estimator arrived on time to do the estimate using a tablet device. When he was done, he emailed us the complete inventory of everything he had seen together with the estimate - which specified the "Straight Talk Price Assurance Total".
I was expecting a certain amount of "low-balling" like I had experienced in the past, but Brian said the price shown would be the final price as long as I didn't change anything - like suddenly including an extra grand piano or creating a delay which forced the truck to wait a day or more to unload.. So long as everything Brian saw remained the same, the price would not vary. I had gotten estimates for two other companies and they were several thousand dollars higher. I'm super happy with the results.
We chose a "Full Pack", so Chipman supplied all the materials and labor, including contracting with a specialist to build crates for a large cherry dining room table top and a marble top side-table. The crew was careful and packed everything well. Not one item was broken or damaged - that is a first for us for all the times we've moved. On the third day the loading crew arrived and set to work doing a tight pack, which ensures nothing will shift or fall and damage anything else.
Our move was door-to-door, which I highly recommend, and stayed in place on the truck the whole way. The driver who picked up our load drove it all the way to our new home in Lincoln, Nebraska, so nothing was ever shifted around or unloaded and reloaded on the van. We took up nearly 75% of the truck and they created a bulkhead with sheets of plywood and straps so our load was kept separate from anything else on the truck.
When the packers were doing their thing, they wrote our last name and an identifying number on every single box, in addition to the sequentially number colored stickers - further insurance nothing would get misplaced. Not a thing was lost - another first for us.
The success of a move depends on how professional and careful the pack and the load is executed - Chipman Relocation is A+ and I would highly recommend them and would use them again if I ever moved back to the Sacramento area.
