However, when he put the flapper on, he couldn't stop the toilet from leaking from the reservoir to the floor attachment. He went over to Home Depot & bought a toilet for about $100 or so for me. It turned out it was way too tall! He was here for about 7 hours installing everything. I paid at least a couple hundred dollars extra plus the Big Deal.
A few days later, I called the owner & told him the toilet was unacceptable because of the height. He sent over his head plumber about a week later who brought a toilet that was more suitable. He installed it for me. It's a little too tall, but acceptable. I still have it; it works fine. But he didn't caulk the bottom of the toilet. A week later he came back & caulked it but did a poor job of it - He missed the back of it that you can't see. I had another plumber take care of it on another Big Deal. The owner gave me back $100 because the first plumber apparently over-charged me. He said he fired that original guy. It all started by just trying to replace a flapper & I ended up with two toilets...one that didn't work & one that wasn't caulked properly. It was quite an ordeal.
Ryan did an excellent job. He was knowledgeable, professional and I will definitely use his company in the future.
When the owner called me to inquire about the install, I professionally advised him of the above. He offered to return $200.00 for my trouble, however, to date I have not received any refund. I have called numerous times to inquire why he would not stand behind his commitment, but have not had the courtesy of a return call.
I discovered after the fact that the BBB revoked their accreditation of this company.
I do not recommend you utilize a company that in my opinion is very unprofessional and unethical.
"I have sent an email to the customer. I am currently awaiting a response from them. Please have them give us a call directly so we can handle this promptly. Ryan K. Murray All Star Plumbing & Drain, Inc."
My wife, who was not home when the service was completed, felt that a charge of $375.00 for less than an hour of work was somewhat exorbitant. I pointed out that the bill said this was the standard price, but I called the company to verify this. I told the receptionist that I wanted to know what the standard price was for repairing a leaking pipe under a house, and she transferred me to the owner. After I explained the reason for my call, the owner said he would contact the plumber who did the work and get back to me. He did not.
I therefore called again, several days ago and explained to the receprionist that I had not heard back from the owner. She said she would contact him and he would return my call that day. Once again, he did not.
While the price might have been reasonable, I am rating it as a D since I do not know whether it was. I had noticed an earlier reviewer had mentioned that All Star was on the expensive side.
I am not sure why the plumber showed up in his own car without the necessary equipment, but I downgraded punctuality because of the time it took him to get what he needed. I understand that he might have come simply to provide an estimate and not do repairs, but because of the lack of communication I do not know if this was the case. After he identified the poroblem I asked whether it needed to be repaired immediately, and when he said, "Yes," i asked if he could do it.
The F in professionalism is because I never reeceived a call back from the company, or the answer to what I thought was a simple question - the standard price for finding and repairing a leaking pipe under my home.
Advised that the The Big Deal on Angie's List was up to $200 labor, not 2 hours as I had seen earlier on Angie's List. Apparently some mix-up that has since been fixed with Angie's List. I did feel I got my money's worth, when they were finished.
I've had a problem replacing a cartridge in my bath sink. (Don't ever buy Moen hardware for your sinks. Moen has sent me numerous cartridges over time, so they are aware of this problem, which causes water leaks after cartridge ages.) I have replaced them numerous times myself, but unable to do it this time.
We consulted about the cartridge problems and eventually they were able to repair them correctly, much to my great joy. They threw in two extras in the kitchen which were small jobs, but had bothered me for a long time.
In the end, I was extremely glad to have these repairs done, and pleased with the service.
Three days later (weekend with no hot water) the technician returned and installed the new parts. The heater still did not work and a fourth technician was dispatched to check the work of the previous technician. The fourth technician looked over the water heater and informed me that we needed to replace it with a new one, and he could arrange for the exchange immediately.
At that point I became suspicious and said I would need to think it over before ordering a new heater. I then contacted the manufacturer and was referred to a qualified technician located in Rocklin. He arrived shortly after I called him, and after examining the water heater found a bird nest lodged in the air intake tube. He removed the nest and attempted to start the water heater. It still did not work. He then inspected the new parts installed by All Star Plumbing he found two ground wires were left disconnected. The old parts were then properly reinstalled and the unit fired up immediately and has worked without a problem since.
I contacted the owner of All Star and informed him what had occurred and he laughed and said "I'll need to talk to those guys, this is too much!" He also asked if I would return the new parts to him so he could get a credit from the manufacturer. I said I would keep them as a back up once I confirmed they were the correct parts for my unit. In the meantime All Star billed me $400 for labor and $218 for parts. None of which I authorized!!
Moral of this story.... DON'T USE ALL STAR PLUMBING...FIND A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN AND KEEP AND EYE OUT FOR BIRD NESTS
