I had several repair projects in mind when Alex arrived but my most immediate concern was a short in a string of undercabinet lights in the kitchen that was installed as an upgrade 17 years ago by another electrician. In diagnosing the short, Alex had to troubleshoot which outlet was causing the short. He educated me about his thought processes so I was open to replacing old outlets because the originals were installed when my house was built 35 years ago. By the time he found the culprit (which was outside in the garden!), Alex recommended a restoration of the entire circuit in the kitchen. Another repair was a fan/light in the master bathroom. The pull switch to the fan needed to be replaced. When Alex replaced the switch, we realized the fan motor was burned out. So that repair resulted in Alex recommending a whole new fan/light (or use the light only) so I have ordered a new appliance, which Alex will install on a return trip, and haul away the old fixture. There were other minor repairs performed too. At each juncture, Alex advised of the added cost and I signed for increased estimates. Because the entire project took two half-days to complete, Alex brought in additional men on the 2nd day to help speed up the time to complete everything. I am so confident in AAA's services that I am hiring them to install new ceiling fans/lights in two bedrooms. AAA is advising me on how/what to buy because my bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and little or no attic space. Their expertise in electricity is crucial to my keeping the upgrades of my "old" house (my dream house) professional, up to date, and energy efficient. Thank you AAA Electrical!

Was charged almost $800 to repair power outage in garage and living room, just for the problem to come back. When I called for them to at least assess what is wrong, I was told by a rude old lady that I need to pay again. If you are getting ripped off by unprofessional contractors like AAA, you should contact the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and file a complaint.

He ended up putting in a plastic fixture and after all that he charged the outrageous price. It was $491 for just diagnosing the problem and over $200 for the fixture. I felt it was over-priced and many of the services were unneccessary. We called an electrician out to fix the porchlight and only the porchlight. Once we finally got him directed toward the issue it only took him 5-10 minutes to fix the porchlight. This was the issue that we wanted taken care of all along. What he found was that the socket on the porch light had been twisted and caused the other ceiling lights to go out. This should have been a quick and easy fix and would have had we been listened to in the first place. The other diagnostic services were completely unneccessary and I feel I should not have been charged for services I never asked for and never received. I also felt as though I was lied to, for instance he stated in the final bill that he traced the branch wire back to the main service which is impossible as he never went through our crawl space.

"[member name removed] called on April 11 2014 with power out at 12:45 PM Sue took call and booked call with 59.00 Dispatch fee which guarantees 2 hour show up window and state certified technician to the door which has been drug screened and background check. At time of service our technician Ed meet with [member name removed] and her son and after discussing issue with both determined that evaluation diagnostic is the proper course of action for service due to age of residence and lack of maintenance to property. [member name removed] was offered straight Forward price prior to performing any work, which was authorized. [member name removed] and her son where present at time of service. Both had heated discussion The son just wanted from porch to work. And Mom agreed reluctantly. Home is built 1906 and client purchased 15 years ago and had electrician look at electrical system them. Original knob & tube wiring non grounded system with service change to 125 Amp ZINSCO panel surface mount, main electrical service looks to be 15 years+ old non verified permit at time of service change, branch circuit wire has been extended to basement and attached or terminated to old original knob and tube branch wire. I quote “everything was OK at time of purchase” 15 years ago. Affected circuit was 15 amp 120 V utility which controlled lighting in kitchen pantry, hood exhaust, bed 1-2 lights and receptacles, bathroom, dining room receptacles and entry porch. Front entry porch is attached to exterior landing porch light. Issue caused by owners son continually twisting ceramic light socket to remove light bulb which in turn twisted wires causing dead short at lighting fixture on porch. An evaluation and diagnostic was performed for $491.00 to clear circuit and to make minor repair (Minor repairs are replaces receptacle, switch, includes GFCI, makeup junction box, reset GFCI receptacle or breaker. Does not replace any panel components). I cleared the circuit one device or switch at time till issue / problem was found. Since problem was identified as dead short and was located where son damaged wiring as described and fixture was original to home no junction box was present light was mounted directly to wood surface, which is code compliant at time home was built. Since new fixture was installed this method of install is not code compliant. Also this service is performed in order to check safety and integrity of branch wire. Since new light fixture and junction box does not meet description of minor repair. Our technician had discussion with [member name removed] on damage cause of issue and price to repair issue, also [member name removed] son weighed in on repairing fixture as and I quote “It’s not the safest neighborhood they are steal off porch, stealing my roses off fence line in ally”. I just want light work. As of this date I have not received any calls regarding repair not working or fixture has failed, or owner does not like fixture, or fixture does not illuminate stairs, landing enough. I attached work order with authorization signature and pictures along with notes. You can see our technician arrived 2:43 PM and completed repairs and left at 5:13 PM 2.5 hour’s on site including going to purchase parts for repairs. I also see [member name removed] mentioned GFCI replace for free in pantry but only to complain about cost, Also she did not mention the free LED light bulb for hood exhaust we left here either. Also I see a 75.00 off coupon has been applied. I our attempt to help [member name removed] basically we shot our self in the foot. We would have been offer collecting dispatch fee and moving on. See this is our reward."

We hired another electrician who didn't correctly repair the problem. He found the problem right away within half an hour. When he was checking the wall unit, he found that it was flickerling little sparks because the bed was against it. He also checked all of the outlets throughout the house. He took the time to explain the situation as well as the other needs of the house. He was professional and efficient. He did really great, was very reasonably priced, and we are happy with his services.

Beware! AAA Electrical Services of Sacramento will attempt to milk you any way they can, do not be fooled by their 'Straight Forward Pricing Policy' it is rife with exceptions, exclusions and hidden add-ons. Ultimately AAA attempted to charge me >$600 for less than 1 hours work on a very easy job. I chose AAA on the basis of their advertising that assured 'Straight Forward Pricing' with no surprises. That promise was broken. Specifically, listed on web and in print documents provided by AAA were clear Repair/Install prices for a variety of typical jobs. In my case I was informed my job fell in the $266 plus $59 service fee range ($336). After the inspection I was given an estimate which I paid in full with an explicit assurance that only the cost of the transformer (on order) remaining to be covered. I verified and wrote down with my wife as witness, the promise from Ed (AAA) that this $336 cost was the final and complete cost for the job and that no additional costs (other than the part) would be incurred. This was not true. Only after the part arrived was I informed that the so-called repair/Install fee did not actually cover the Repair or Install, it supposedly only covered the 'diagnosis' fee and the Repair/Install would actually cost an additional $298. On the contract there is indeed fine print that does indeed suggest that an additional diagnosis fee would be charged, however that is in very small print and needs to be initialed by the customer. SIGNIFICANTLY - I WAS NOT SHOWN THIS BOX AND I DID NOT INITIAL THIS BOX! Why this extra cost should be hidden from the customer is clear - it was meant to be hidden! Ultimately i ended up paying $336.75 for an extremely trivial diagnosis (10 minutes maximum plus 30 minutes of 'talk'), then I was quoted an additional $298 for an install that would have taken 12 minutes maximum (literally 4 screws and 4 wire nuts). The total charge would have been in excess of $630 for less than an hours work most of that consumed with Ed's used car salesman bluster. These are not electricians that can be trusted, do not get fooled by their slick Website and manners. I was fooled by a clear Repair/Install price that did not actually include a repair or install and AAA cleverly avoided specifying all the hidden extra costs.

"Member it is unfortunate you where dissatisfied with our service. As our technician went over warranty, and offered straightforward price prior to start of any work. Technician offered Evaluation and Diagnostic which includes minior repair replace switch, receptacle, GFCI, reset breaker, GFCI allows technician to trace circuit, for integrity and safety. Evaluation and Diagnostic was to look at why you lighting low voltage tracks DIY install during remodel. Technician found problem in attic a low voltage transformer Light tech LVT 151 rated 150 watts maximum. Owner installed higher wattage lamp in which transformer was not rated for causing failure. AAA electrical Services returned to install transformer order on your behalf, but you already purchased one online. We are all in favor of saving money on those unforeseen repairs. You denied quoted cost to install your transformer as this would not be a minor repair. I wish to thank you for insight of our service which is valuable to improving our company practices. I would wish for you to take time to call to discuss your grievance for amicable resolve. Thank you Edward Juarez President"

Called AAA Electrical (Ed Juarez) afternoon of 5-7-09 as had no lights in our Sun Room. (In washing the windows, my wife had got water in an outlet.) Told him we were having six people there for dinner in a few hours, so had to have lighting. Was told $59 was minimum house call. Ed Juarez arrived and said he would do nothing without my signing for "diagnosis" cost of $266. I signed as no practical alternative. He checked the breaker box, then asked if there was a GFI for the room. Told him I didn't know. He immediately found one, pushed the re-set button, and we had lights. Less than 10 minutes had elapsed since he had come in the door. I have heart problems, am 80, and have to rest or sleep every afternoon, so especially after this episode, I had to retire. He then said that, since the charge would be the same anyway, he would look around the house for any other problems and if we wished would put in a new GFI, which he did. Nothing else was amiss. When my wife tried to get rid of him, but he sat around talking, and finally had to be asked to leave. His bill form included a line for $5.75 TFS, which he crossed out and wrote in $11.50. No such charge ($5.75 or $11.50) was mentioned in the telephone conversation. The total he collected for the 10 minutes to fix our problem, after Senior Discount, was $296.60 for the 10 minutes work. We paid by VISA. After the confusion of the day and evening, I called him the next morning and told him I thought he had taken advantage of us in this situation, especially since his Table of Charges includes a GFI for $139. I requested that he reduce the charge to that amount, which I offered to pay. He refused, so I have disputed the VISA charge and filed a complain with the California Contract Licensing Board. This was a "bait and switch" operation. Telephone bait was $59. I was not told of any $11.50 TFS charge. The switch was the take-it-or-leave it $266 which became $296.60. Moreover, he tried to justify the exorbitant price by spending more time at our house after the 10-minute work was actually completed.
Response from AAA ELECTRICAL SERVICE INC
"AAA Electrical Services addressed this matter with great concern. I spoke to the member the day after the service to resolve his concerns regarding price. The member said all the repairs were still operating OK, the technician was polite, offered a straightforward price in writing prior to doing any work, cleared the entire circuit for safety, inspected main panel and cleaned up after the service, offered senior discount of 10%, reviewed 1-year warranty on back of invoice if it fails within the first year, we will repair it for free. Regrettably, I informed the member that the price only issue after the fact would not be covered by our 100% satisfaction guarantee, but if our technician would have left a mess, did not offer a straightforward price for authorization prior to any work being performed, then he would be entitled to a 100% refund of the service call. AAA Electrical Service and our track record speaks for itself with thousands of satisfied clients throughout the greater Sacramento metro area. See our reviews on Angie's List and Service Magic. It is regrettable we failed in making the member happy with our service, but I would not refuse a second chance to do so in the future. - Ed Juarez, Owner/Operator"

AAA was extremely professional, friendly, articulate and exceptional from the first phone call to the time that the electrician left my home. They wear booties and place a red mat at the front door to prevent from tracking dirt. It is just one of the many things they do. They provided an accurate estimate and the time it took to complete the job was less than they had originally planned. Our house was built in 1950 and so it is important that I have a reliable and friendly electrician. I do not like spending money on these types of expenses, but when I call AAA it makes it a whole lot easier. I would equate this to a really good dentist.

I was impressed with AAA Electrical Services. I called 5 other companies out of the phone book. Only AAA electrical answered. Came out right away and helped me and my family. Work was professional and clean. I was very happy. I paid a travel fee. At first I was uneasy but I got my money's worth. Thank You. I think Steve or Steven was my technician. Afterwards, I went to their website to find out more about company.

We called AAA in the morning, and they were able to come by that evening. They put in a temporary service so we'd have electricity, but they required that we put in a new box and service or pay a great deal for the temporary service. They came back a few days later and spent about a day and a half repairing our service. They did a good job, but we had to call several times for them to come back and repair the stucco on the side of the house which had to be torn out before the new box was put in. It seemed rather expensive for the work done, but we were in no position to look around for other bids.

I was really impressed with the way they answered all of my questions without making me feel silly and like I was asking too many questions. They wanted me to be informed with what was going on with my home. They showed up on time and were very helpful. I will definitely use them in the future.
