Their price is excellent and it's fairly easy to get help fairly quickly. But the quality is probably what you pay for... not that good.
Since we had not yet moved to the area, we asked a representative to open our newly-purchased home for the cleaners. Sunny Maids sent a non-English-speaking husband and wife team who were accompanied by their daughter as a translator. The wife was visibly physically disabled (limited mobility of her arms due to a birth defect) so our representative assumed the daughter would pitch in to clean those areas mother could not. Near the end of their cleaning time, our representative returned to find the wife having difficulties cleaning water spots off the glass shower enclosure and the husband cleaning the self-cleaning ovens with a chemical oven-cleaning product. They wrapped up and left.
When we arrived on move-in day two days later we found thick grease spots on the granite countertop next to the stovetop, accumulated food crumbs on the cutting board and in the kitchen drawers, thick sticky oil inside the kitchen wall cupboards, baseboard moldings were not touched, interior windows and mirrors not clean, ceiling lights filled with bugs, and spiders and cobwebs hanging from the ceilings.
Upon complaining to the manager at Sunny Maids, she contacted the cleaning couple who, she assured us, had never had a complaint lodged against them before. The couple told her they didn't have enough time to clean and had been told they could only stay four hours (two people for four hours equals the 8-hr. quote). They certainly were NOT told that by us or our representative as our goal was to move into a clean house. When the manager offered to send the same couple back to finish the job there was no question that we did NOT want them back in our home. (Once burned, twice shy.) Nancy explained that Sunny Maids hires contract workers; therefore, the contractor performing the initial work is the same one Sunny Maids sends back if there are problems. The final resolution was to accept a refund equivalent to 1-1/2 hrs. time for a total of $27.50. That means we ultimately paid $140.50 and still had the privilege of cleaning our home ourselves before we could unpack.
As a result, our move-in was greatly compromised by the exceptionally inferior services of this company. Clearly Sunny Maids is culpable for not vetting their contractors adequately and for sending workers ill-suited to the task. Our recommendation to anyone considering using Sunny Maids Referral Service is to plan to be on site when the services are being performed. Otherwise, CAVEAT EMPTOR -- Let the buyer beware!
