NELLIE'S ALTERATION SERVICES

After reading the great reviews on Angie's List for this provider I decided to try her services. I have been back 4 times - including pant hems, mending 2 storage bags, and a dress hem. The work is done promptly, usually within a week, and her prices are very reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend her services.

She did an awesome job. This sweater had multiple moth holes in it, and I still can't believe how good it looks!

Nellie measured the length herself. She coordinated the color of the hem thread to match the gold thread on one pair of jeans; the other color matched the jean itself. The length was perfect for me. She answered my questions about what types of pants could be altered well. I would certainly recommend her to friends.

My daughter received this beautiful Cinderella type dress for Christmas 2010 and wore it once or twice. It went to her ankles and she accidentally stepped on it while going up the stairs. The hem of the outer sheer layer ripped and she hasn't worn it since. I decided to try to get it repaired before she grows out of it so I went to Nellie's. I actually stopped in on Thursday, December 22, 2011 to get a quote first. I was helped right away and was told it would cost $17. I don't get alterations done, so I didn't know if this was a good price. I left saying I would have to talk to my husband first. My husband said to get it fixed so I took it back on Friday, December 23. My daughter wanted to wear it on Christmas Eve, the next day, so my mother urged me to ask if it could be completed by then. My mother was even willing to pay more for the rush job. When I dropped it off, the Nellie asked when I wanted to pick it up. It was 2:30 pm on the 23rd. I questioningly said, and quot;Today?and quot; I didn't want to put her on the spot though. I explained that my daughter hasn't worn it in a year and could wait another week. I didn't expect to get it done that quickly (even with my mother's urging!). Nellie said if I really needed it done, she would do it. Again, I told her my daughter could wait. She then told me she had some help in the back and could get it done by 3:30 pm. Wow! This was unexpected. I was on my way to a friend's house and could not be back by 3:30 so I asked my husband to pick it up for me. When he got there he noticed a sign on the door stating their holiday hours. I had not seen the sign. It said she closed at 2:30 that day. This means she was just getting ready to close when I came in, and stayed just to get my daughter's dress done! Double Wow! I am so thankful. She didn't charge me anything extra either. My daughter was excited to wear it because it has a matching doll dress.
The workmanship was wonderful. I was a little worried about what she explained she would do to the hem. Instead of using a serger to finish the edge, she wanted to roll the hem and sew it. I am so glad I agreed to what she wanted to do. Not only is the hem much stronger, it looks 10 times better. The doll dress still has the other hem and it doesn't look as nice. She has a special tool that rolls the hem and it looks so professional. I will definitely recommend Nellie's to others and will be more likely to get things altered in the future now that I know a place I can trust.

Nellie's is a small shop, and when I popped in without an appointment or calling in advance another customer was being helped so I needed to wait just a few minutes. I tried on the jacket, the sleeves were pinned and in 2 days the alteration was complete and perfect. I will definitely take other work there, and now that I know of a good and reasonable shop, I am more willing to purchase something that may need some alterations.
