The crew was very polite and responsive, and I have a lot of respect for and confidence in the foreman. I had some questions about the leveling of the fence in a few places at the bottom -- the entire backyard has a slope to some degree -- because we wanted it to be as level as possible. I was teleworking, so the foreman got me to show me what it would look like before they finalized it and showed me where the line was and where the kickboard would be placed relative to the slope. In one area, he measured and showed me the options between different degrees of slope for the fence, and the amount of open space that would be below the kickboard if it was leveled. He was right every time about the best way to do it, but I really appreciated that he wanted to discuss it with me and make sure it was what I wanted.
The fence looks great and they worked very efficiently in removing the old fence and putting up the very nice new fence. Their attention to detail made it a professional job that was well worth it. For each and every vertical post, the worker used a level to ensure that it was straight before nailing it in place.
I think the only part that might be slightly frustrating to others is scheduling. Fortunately, business is much better for construction folks than it used to be, so it took about 6 weeks from estimate to construction. The estimate was scheduled very quickly -- quicker than i could actually be available! The owner told me it was going to take 4-6 weeks before they would be able to complete the job after receiving the contract, but it took a few weeks before it was even scheduled after I returned the contract. The fact that it was a relatively small, 1-day job probably made this more difficult for them to schedule.
We had to move our cars so they could get into the gate to stage their equipment. Crew left tools on site after hours so we secured the gate. They removed one gate section and installed new hinges and new gate section. Excellent job re-mounting gate and with fencepost through gate. Steel fence posts installed as a stop-gap for leaning rotting posts. Chuck advised that this was a better long term solution. He did not recommend replacing entire fenceline and after examining fence stated that it was in fairly good shape.
Crew foreman is very good. I think I got their "A" team for the job. Which is my good fortune. It has been 3 months now and the retaining wall is looking very good and doing is job. We are very pleased with the Creative Fencing Team.
We did play a little "phone tag" when I was first trying to get a hold of him Me leaving messages for him, he leaving messages for me. But once we set a date and met a my house everything was done like clock. work.
Just months after the installation there were problems and now, a year later I have a piece-mealed-not-repaired, not what I signed up for $5800 fence that is in not much better shape than the 60 year old fence I replaced!! The new posts are already cracking, the panels shrunk, (clearly this was NOT aged wood!!) and the gap under the fence continued to increase over the months leading to dog in the yard in back of me continually poking his head under my fence which incites my dogs and there is a continual problem there.
It's been one year of ongoing phone calls (takes at least 4 calls to get a response - IF I get a response!) - no response to the last series of calls) and patch work repairs ( I wish I could post pictures!!) and the last 'repair' - boards nailed under the base of the fence, that do not even extend to the end of a panel! There's a gap between the repair board and the end of the panel not to talk about the end of the back of the fence! Talk about piece-meal!!! I'm disgusted and out almost $6000.00!
