I am currently involved in LITIGATION with Rivard's Earth Works. I would NOT RECOMMEND this contractor to anyone! I was a Novice/New on Driveway Construction and Relied on Mr. Rivard's Expertise as a Contractor to build the Driveway according to Plans and Permits.
Response from Rivard's Earthworks, Inc.

"This is a response to my current and future customers, not to the reviewer above. This guy has been a thorn in our side for 3 years. This reviewer did not find our business through Angie's List 3 years ago. It is disturbing to us that a review site would allow an individual to leave a review that has completely false information. As you can see, it is not consistent with the work we do. Rivard's Earthworks is NOT in litigation with the above reviewer. Anyone knows that if you are involved in litigation you do not discuss it on an open review site. The above reviewer was an owner/builder, NOT a novice/new individual to road construction. He was very familiar with permits and county requirements. Rivard's Earthworks was retained by the above reviewer to clear the land to access the property. Once the land clearing was complete the above reviewer asked Rivard's Earthworks to generate and stock pile material over a future permitted road. The road looked so good, the above reviewer tried to pass it as a permitted road with the County of El Dorado. A permitted road requires proper compaction, so a Geo Technical Service was retained for compaction and Rivard's Earthworks continued the work, brought the road to compaction and received the necessary stamps from the County. This was done in August 2014 to September 2014. That brings us to another false statement from the above reviewer. The above reviewer states that the work was completed in December 2016. It was NOT! Also, the above reviewer sold the property in October 2015 for $285,000.00. So. how is it possible the work was completed in December 2016. It wasn't! Their is no cost stated, because the reviewer NEVER paid for the services rendered, which amounted to $64,000.00. In November 2014 the above reviewer decided Rivard's Earthworks should pay him $65,000.00. Why would we pay when we completed the service and was NEVER compensated for that service? When we refused to acknowledge the above reviewers demand letter for $65,000.00, he decided to pursue a mandatory arbitration case against Rivard's Earthworks with the Contractors State License Board. In September 2015 the CSLB arbitrator awarded Rivard's Earthworks the maximum allowed amount of $12,500.00 from the above reviewer. He NEVER paid! Then, he filed a small claims suit in El Dorado County which was throw out by the judge, because an arbitration award is a legal, binding decision. The above reviewer didn't like that, so he has made it a mission to try to destroy my reputation. It is unfortunate that people like the above reviewer are so dishonest and crooked. To All the Contractors Out There - STAY AWAY from the above reviewer. He is a professional scammer! Rivard's Earthworks does excellent work, is honest and fair with all of its customers."

It was a messy, muddy job but Mark was so easy to work with. He listened to what I wanted, had great equipment to handle the project, and took great care in his work.

Mark has obviously been doing this sort of work for a long time, very knowledgeable, and gave my husband some very good pointers for our drainage issues. Absolutely great service, can't thank him enough for making this project so easy!

Mark Rivard excavated for a partially sunken Doughboy pool, and also dug post holes for fencing. Mark arrived on time and stayed I believe 12 hours to get the job done in one day. Very professional and expert in what he does. It is amazing to watch him sculpt just what is needed and in the desired shape. Mark is full of energy, ideas, and when things aren’t as expected (surprises underground) he rolls with it and offers suggestions to solve the issue and keep moving toward completion. Mark is reliable, knowledgable, and trustworthy - that’s not easy to find these days. He does what he says he’ll do, and then some. I highly recommend Riavrd’s Earthworks. He has done work for us before, and we have never been disappointed. Thanks again for another job well done!

Response from Rivard's Earthworks, Inc.

"Mr. [Member Name Removed], After meeting with you and walking your job, we talked about the different types of pools and manufacturers that would allow below grade installations. Although you had plans for a specific pool design, you were going to further research other pool manufactures for quality and financial purposes. I was waiting to hear back from you regarding that research and feedback from your electrician on ditch placement to provide an accurate estimate. During this period of time, I unfortunately misplaced your contact information and as time went by assumed you had changed your mind or moved on. The estimating process is time consuming and requires accurate information from start to finish. To estimate and/or start a job without all specifications often leads to cost over runs and unhappy customers. I would have appreciated a phone call or an email, instead of an F review with an inaccurate claim. I apologize for any miscommunication and hope your project went well. Regards, Mark Rivard Rivard'[Member Name Removed] Earthworks, Inc"

I have used Rivards Earthworks before to demolish a collapsed barn. He was fantastic then and certainly did not disappoint this go around. Mark Rivard came out to inspect and evaluate the grading that was done by another contractor. He was nice enough not to directly trash the other contractor, but it was clear that the soil filled in was not properly compacted and in a short time (couple months with little rain) was eroding. The building was placed too low for the surrounding grade and little to no consideration was made for drainage (this is me talking, not Mark - but he didn't disagree!).
Mark came in with his equipment and started working right away. He is not the stand around and waste time or money kind of guy. He works hard and constantly from the time he arrives until the time he leaves. He made suggestions throughout the process to solve issues that came up, all the while just charging for his time. He allowed us to help where possible to reduce the cost, and, as in our last experience with Mark, he did as much as he could for us while here simply saying "might as well while I am here." I'm talking extras, if you didn't catch that. My humongous burn pile is now mulch, and my compost pile is turned, mixed, and some spread - thank you Mark!! He also used his supplier contacts to secure good pricing for drain pipe - not part of the contract, but somehow he didn't go over the estimate and included the cost of the pipe. Just to name some of the things he didn't have to do.
Mark is one of those few contractors that you can just trust to do what is right and best for you. He has great integrity and always honors his word - and then some. He works until it is just too dark to work anymore. With the risk of rain in this project, he even sacrificed his weekend to get the work done before the rain hit. He is "that" guy. Completely reliable and goes above and beyond expectations.
We are very pleased with Mark Rivard and Rivards Earthworks. This is the only contractor I will have excavate or grade for me from here on out. I really should have insisted my general contractor hire Rivards Earthworks in the first place. Would have saved me a bunch of money, headache, and frustration. My garage would have been on better ground as well, literally! Don't make the same mistake I did. Just call Mark, and he'll do the work right the first time!

To Mark showed up exactly on time and began work alongside my plumber.  Not only did he do a great job, he had some recommendations for the plumber.  My plumber even remarked on Mark and what a pro he was.  Mark had to be very careful to dig around the clean-out of the sewer and around some orange trees we are trying to save.  He obviously has been doing this for a while.  Great guy and very professional.  I would absolutely hire him again.  The only bad thing is that he is so good that he is so good, he is always busy and a little tough to schedule!  To help me out, he came out and did the work on a Saturday.

I contracted with Mark Rivard from Rivard's Earthworks to clear brush from an overgrown and forested acreage property in Placer County. Mark was thorough, timely, thoughtful, courteous, and dependable. His prices are fair and he does what he says he will do. Mark's work is very high quality. When challenges were encountered on the project (and there are always challenges on a large project like this one), Mark kept me informed, recommended solutions, and included me in decision making. Mark's communication was excellent. Rivard's Earthworks definitely exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Rivard's Earthworks and will be using them again in the future.

We hired Rivard's Earthworks to demolish our collapsed barn, remove the debris, and repair the grade. Words cannot express how happy we are with the work and total experience we had with Rivard's Earthworks. The work was completed as promised (both time and scope of work) for exactly the price quoted. In addition Mark threw in some extras at no additional cost simply saying "I'm here, I might as well...". Rivards Earthworks is a fantastic company that I highly recommend. The finished graded area was so clean and clear; beyond my expectations. It almost looks like he vacuumed the dirt! Mark is the Owner/Operator, so he is personally invested in satisfying his clients as opposed to an employee, and it shows. Steller experience and finished product!!

Once in awhile you find a business that is exceptional - that's my experience in every way with Rivard's Earthworks. This is an owner/operator operation. Mark is a master handling his TB145 Compact Excavator. Mark cleared a large section of our property. We have real problems with volunteers from a Tree of Heaven - they seem to be everywhere. Mark came in and removed roots and all. He also cleared wood and debris left over from a fire that was on our property - he hauled off about 5 tons of debris. His work was exceptional and as promised. His finish work left our land looking like it had been contoured by hand.
At first I was skeptical about a "compact" excavator - boy was I wrong. This thing gets the job done and Mark wastes no time as the operator.
Visit their website and view him in action on YouTube. This is one of those businesses that restores your faith in quality service. His estimate was VERY reasonable and MUCH lower that others.
I'm a believer!! I will be using this service again.

Fantastic!
Mark Rivard has performed a number of services for us. When we bought our house, the backyard was overgrown and unusable. Mark took the time to understand my wife’s ideas and implemented them perfectly. We now have a backyard that we love. The backyard has truly been transformed.
Mark’s professionalism and hardworking attitude are second to none. He worked methodically and we could not be happier.
