I had tried to contact several companies before Alternative Edging and no one returned my calls. Richard, the owner, returned my call within the hour. Furthermore, the two or three times I called him subsequently, he returned my calls, literally, within minutes.
When I described what I wanted he told me immediately that that it was $4 a foot and a minimum charge of $400. I only had about 70 feet and I had seen this in pretty much all of the websites that I brought up, so I was appreciative that he mentioned that right away. It would have been a surprise to anyone who had not done their research. Richard was very professional and accommodating. This was during the heavy rains and so he said he would call when it looked like the rains were letting up and arrange a time to come out. He called on the day he said he would and we set up a time the next week. He said he would arrive at 8:00 AM.
Again, I was so pleasantly surprised when he showed up at 8:00 AM. I've found that for many companies, when they say 8:00, it means somewhere between 8:00 and 10:00. He had me walk him through what I wanted and made suggestions and explained what he could and couldn't do. He laid out the path of the curbing and had me look at it. He made a suggestion that would make it a little more visually pleasing and we went with that.
During the work I went out and was sweeping up some debris by the gate and he said, "Don't worry about any of the cleanup. I'll do that all when we are finished." I then noticed that he had placed a tarp on the street underneath his concrete mixer so the street stayed clean. There was a lot of attention to detail in everything they did. The whole project came out beautifully.
I would definitely recommend Alternative Edging and Richard to anyone who needs this kind of work. He was professional from start to finish.
With that, I went for the mow strips or edging. Richard, owner of Alternative Edge was very fair to work with on the project.
I had to rely on him for suggestions and help since I had no experience with curbing.
The company is located in Riverside. I am sure he travels for this type of work to a number of counties.
One suggestion....If you call him for a price, you might want to also go to his website and select a color/style. Obviously, it would be impossible for him to carry as many color and design options with him as there are available. Ideally, this is a one time, one trip, project. Price over the phone. Let him know the color you (if any) and set the appointment. There are options for designs that loook like brick and stone, if you prefer.
Richard does a lot of his work with a number of professional landscape companies, so, you know he is good.
