It's been several years since Tulip performed the original work on our remodeled home and the floors continue to shine!  They came out quickly a few years ago to address an issue on one of the stair steps, which had begun to squeak.  Tulip remedied the problem professionally and it hasn't been an issue since.  Experienced and polite staff; great to work with.

The workers were really nice and really efficient. They come in and do what they had to do. They were professional and respectful. They treated my home like it was just their own. They were what stood out to me. I would have paid less if I hadn't had the stairwell down and they were the ones that cost a little over $2,000.

We were very specific buyers and did not make it easy on Tulip.  We met with them several times over a 3 month period to discuss various hardwoods (Maple, White Oak, Rift Cut White Oak, different finishes, etc).  They provided us with samples and quotes for each.  We ultimately decided on Maple with a clear finish.  We wanted long boards with no knots or dark streaks in the wood.  We were very concerned that this would not be accomplished since other contractors we were obtaining quotes from said it could not be done.  Was Tulip "overselling" their service?  Not at all!  They delivered exactly what we wanted.  The floor is perfect.  Mark (sales rep) was very responsive to all of our calls and visited the job site regularly to ensure the installation met our standards.  Arturo (foreman) was very skilled at laying out the floor so that board lenghts and color variations looked beautiful when finished.  We are very pleased with our decision to hire Tulip.  They are worth every penny.

They did a pretty decent job, but then were very difficult to contact after the job was done.  Basically I had some questions and the owner was supposed to call me but dropped the ball after several calls.  Finally did call about 2 weeks later, TOO late.  So can't say I was impressed.

Tulip delivered wood and stored in living room to acclimate for about a
week. They then came every day to work on installing floors. First they got squeaks out of
old floor and then they leveled  the floor and applied a vapor barrier and 1/8" plywood. The oak flooring,1/4",
went over all this and was finished to a beautiful sheen.

Installation of the flooring was very good.  Excellent wood work.
Finishing was another matter.  Finish looks OK but sloppy in places.  For instance, put finish over marks on the wood that could have been erased with sanding.  A shoe print on the wood was varnished over.  Looked like finish was put on in a hurry.  Several places where varnish splashed on wall and other surfaces that required repainting after the flooring guys gone.  We were away from home during the finishing process so not there to monitor quality.
We would rate wood work on installation with an "A" grade.  Finishing we would rate with a "C" grade.

They did a superb job. They completed it on a very short time frame and found the right-matching materials and even came out on a Saturday to do the work. They made it all happen and I was shocked, amazed, and really appreciative.

They did a great job. The quality is absolutely top-notch, the customer service is great and they really worked with us on the deadline and budget, but the quality is just unmatched. I’m happy with their services.

We bought a new place with dark floors. Mark came out and diagnosed them as maple. Once sanding began we discovered they were in fact hard-to-get red birch. No matter, Tulip was on the case and found the floors in Maine (of all places). He worked hard to get the wood here quickly for the bedroom install. Otherwise the sanding, finishing, and all went on schedule and the floors are stunning. Every step of the way Tulip was excellent.

I couldn’t be happier with Tulip Hardwood Floors. They are the ultimate professionals – they take pride in their work, they do a fabulous job (my floors are BEAUTIFUL), and they couldn’t be easier/nicer to work with. I felt taken care of the entire time. I highly highly recommend Tulip and will use them again in the future if I have any other floor needs. In particular, I worked with Ger on the estimate and the floor color – he’s really good at listening and working with wood and color. He went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the custom color we designed. In addition, Miguel was the main worker on the floors. I can’t speak highly enough of his work. He’s very detail-oriented – he does not try to take short-cuts. He does a FABULOUS job. Both of them do. And, let me tell you, I’m not the easiest of customers. I actually started out working with a different, lower-priced floor company. It was a disaster. They couldn’t get the floor color right – and their stains on my red oak floors made the floor look PINK! It was awful. So, I ditched them and luckily someone referred me to Tulip. They came in and immediately understood what to do with my floors. As I said, the floors look great and they made the process easy.

They did a fabulous job. They were spectacular, and I am 100% happy with them. We asked a number of people to give us quotes and one of our neighbors had used Tulip. We considered our neighbors opinion and also looked at their website. Then they came out and gave us an estimate. It was a long and complicated process. Their work is of very high quality. They set high standards so that they do high quality work. They were very professional throughout. The people involved in the job including the manager were very high caliber professionals. We got what we paid for. I think you need to pay that much to get this good job done.

Estimator was prompt for first visit and provided good feedback on my options to handle some problem areas in the wood flooring such as water & pet stains (did not push replacement in call cases stating that some stains sand out which is less cost for me). Took time to explain various finishing / stain options. Estimate for work provided same day as visit and final bill had no surprises. Scheduler was able to accommodate my timeline to begin and finish work within a week of the estimate during their busy time. Crew was courteous and knowledgeable. My house was empty, but they were clean and respectful of the premises. I'm very happy with the floors. Had to have some boards replaced because stains would not sand out and they match with the existing flooring well. I've used Tulip at another house in 1995 and had equally good results. I would happily use the Tulip folks again.

I loved visiting their showroom and getting to pick the actual materials, and our floors came out very nicely. The men were responsive to feedback on fixing a few minor details at the end of the job too. The original estimate they gave me was 20% lower than the final cost though, which I didn't appreciate since I had in part selected them over another bid because of their lower price. They definitely have a lot of experience and are very professional, so as long as others are aware the estimate will be lower than the final cost, I can definitely recommend the quality of their work.

The company completed the sanding phase on April 19 and I paid them the 70% and we agreed the other 30% will be paid upon final competition. They came back right away to stain and varnish, but they did not do the shoe mold at this time. There were sections of the floor where they repaired the floor and these areas needed to be repaired. When you look at the floor you can see numerous nail voids. On May 7th I told them they needed to fill the holes, fix the staining and fix the shoe mold as well. Ger was the one to come out and look at this for me. On May 10th I informed them that Ger never contacted me about fixing the problems. I told them at that time, they would not be able to come back until first week of June. On June 7th I followed up with a email stating that I was ready for them to finish the job, and they could come on that Wednesday or Thursday. I heard back from them on 6/10 and they said they would be here in 2 hours. I needed more lead time then 2 hrs. I then said I would not be able to have them until August now. The company said this breaks the agreement and quoted to me the statue of a mechanics lien They did finally come on June 14th. Again, the floors were not completed in a correct way. This is when the owner came out to look at the job on 6/17. He did agree that these repairs were needed, but would do this in the fall. But he wants me to pay 15% of the 30% as good faith. I don’t think I should have to pay the rest of the 30% until the job is completely done, which is now the fall.
Response from TULIP HARDWOOD FLOORS
"We are sorry to hear about your experience. It is our policy to respond to call-backs on jobs as quickly as possible. It sounds as though in your case this was not done. Tulip provides a life-time warranty on the quality of our craftsmanship, which means that we will return as many times as needed until you are happy with your floor. Because we complete 15-20 jobs every week, it does happen on a rare occasion that a job is not completed to a customer's satisfaction. We believe that it is precisely during these situations that a company should be judged. As noted, we sent the owner of the company to inspect the job, and then brought over our best refinishing crew to work on the floor until the customer was satisfied. I understand that your job was completed to your satisfaction in late June, and final payment was made. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help."

I cannot say enough great things about this company. The work they do is fabulous (and I am an absolute perfectionist), they are punctual, professional, great craftsman, detail-oriented, and just plain great to do business with. I chose an oil based finish on old, very ugly, red-oak floors with I don't know how many layers of polyurethane. The floors turned out gorgeous and super-smooth and they are just a delight to look at and walk on. I also think Tulip is incredibly reasonable on costs and when we hit a couple of unanticipated problems (floor replacement, transitions into rooms) they were more than fair about the extra costs. Because my house is three stories, they allowed me to phase the work which was a huge plus. If you want a beautiful job for a reasonable cost I cannot recommend this company enough

Ger did the patching. He was very careful to make it look EXACTLY like the original white oak floor [put in when the 1906 building was constructed], and he thought about how it should transition from a hall to another room that had changed its configuration in the remodel. It looks like it was always like it is now. Absolutely perfect. Of the dozen contractors I worked with on this 400k job, I was most pleased with Tulip. The quality is stunning, and the price just fine.

Their service and work were outstanding. I'd forgotten the bath in the estimate, so they added it in at the last minute for only $500, which included removing the toilet. They came on the day they were scheduled and began the demolition of the floor. They discovered two extra, unexpected layers of sticky flooring underneath, and I could see the dollar signs rising, but they charged me only $155 additional for what seemed like hours of extra work. (They did have to add a day to the work, though it wasn't a full day.) They protected everything with plastic, removed baseboards and replaced them, and installed beautiful bamboo flooring in a random pattern that looks gorgeous. The workmanship was meticulous. We are 100% happy with our floors and their work.

We had to move all the furniture to the first story, down to the last paper clip. We left town. Tulip came, did the work; and we returned. WE never saw them at all, except for the day of the estimate and a second time they came out to discuss some details. The work was excellent. They left the house very clean.
