Julio does not carry Worker's Compensation Insurance. If someone gets hurt they will go after you because you hired someone without it and a judge will rule that were negligent by not looking into this. His doing this is ILLEGAL Look it up for yourself.
He has no liability insurance. If someone gets injured because they tripped over an extension cord, a kid got into his van and played with dangerous tools, does some electrical work and your house catches fire, you are going to pay for if and if there is an injury you are going to get stuck for the medical expenses as well.
His employees are all illegal and he does not give them any unemployment, social security, medical, or disability insurance. This is also ILLEGAL.
I almost rented a house to him. A rental agency did a credit report and claimed he only made $8000 last year which means lied to the IRS pays no taxes and wants you and me to pay for the roads, police, libraries, schools etc which he uses every day.
His main guy Paco who has been doing construction most of his life does all the quality work. Julio pays him just $16 an hour while charging over $100 an hour for his labor. This is not only illegal, but but to me this is also exploitation
He saves money by breaking the law and mistreating his employees which is why his bids will be cheaper than those from legitimate companies.
I own a few houses. Julio did 3 jobs for me before working on my own house and I had grown to trust him. He comes across as being trustworthy and professional and dresses the part. Over time he used my trust to cheat me.
After gaining my trust over time what he did was tell me a bathroom remodel would cost $7500, and when he was done he gave ma a bill for $20000 and I paid him because I trusted him. He told me he would send me an itemized list of everything he did and show me that he did that much work. He never sent it and I have never heard from him again. A contractor friend told me the work he did was worth about $8000 so in essence he stole $12,000.
The rental agency also said his credit was bad and he was very evasive about what it was. This is just one more sign of his dishonesty where he promised to pay someone and instead kept the money
On the first jobs he did I thought he only worked by himself and as such did not require the things a contractor must have when he has employees. Once the job was done I would see he did a good job pay him and be done with. He always did good work. Then he came to work on my house and had two employees where I found out everything narrated above.
I can say the quality of work that he Alex and Paco does is excellent (almost all of it is done by Paco), but if you want a legitimate company that does not break the law, has worker's comp, liability insurance, does not make you pay his taxes, does not exploit his employees, and you don't need to worry about them cheating you, I would go somewhere else.
