We have a very small, old garage, so not up to today's requirements in terms of clearance around the door needed for modern garage doors on rails. I had a single piece solid wood door with giant (dangerous) springs to assist but it was still difficult to open manually and I was told it was too heavy for a motor.  I had had another company come out and look at it, they spent 5 minutes said they couldn't filt rails in with the clearance and they were basically useless and didn't seem to have much knowledge about types of garage doors and older systems. I found Bill on Angie's list and it sounded like he knew his stuff and has a lot of experience. I emailed Bill a picture of the door and springs with the minimal hope of replacing the springs and figuring something out for an opener. Bill came out and had a look and measured and said it would be tricky but no problem to do a rolling door and we could even choose a side mounted or ceiling mounted electric opener. He had infinitely more knowledge than the previous vendor. He explained a few different ways he could approach the limitations of my space and gave me his opinion on the best approaches. It never felt like he was trying to oversell anything, he was really just helping us solve our problem. He explained everything he would do and I was confident he could do it; he had to lower the top of the door 3 inches to accommodate the wound spring above the door and build out an inch from one side to accommodate the rail next to the wall. I was a little concerned the building out of the frame would look chinzy but they did a great job making it really solid. Anyway because of the tight space I ordered a custom made door (steel, with trim and windows etc). Bill placed the order and did the negotiation and about 6 weeks later we set up a date for the installation. Because it was a more complicated job, it took 3 guys all day to do the install, and they did a great job. The opener is a side mounted Liftmaster. It is sooo quiet the first time I pressed the button to open it from inside the house I thought it didn't work. The dog doesn't even notice when I open the garage door when I get home. They had to do some wiring to put a button by the other door to the garage and they provided us with a wirelessly controlled light that comes on with the door (because this is not attached to the side mount motors). The whole experience was very easy and Bill was very responsive and very professional, a master of his craft for sure.

They did a good job. There was no question about the cost. He came in on time. How can I didn't like excellent? He was a very down to earth guy. He didn't have professional work but he did a great job and that's all that matters.

Chose Bill, though his bid was a bit higher than others we saw, because he seemed more knowledgeable about details of our specific situation, and how he might approach the installation. He arrived as finally scheduled, and spent a couple of hours installing the hardware so that I (at age 81) can now lift the door with the push of a button rather than using person-power. When he was finished he gave me details about usage, and controls. Very personable fellow.

A week or so later, the door would not close all the way down. Since it was a weekend, he told me how to deal with the problem temporarily. He arrived promptly on Monday, and made the necessary adjustment, and we've had no problems since.

I think he's a man who really knows what he's doing, does it well, and is able to explain what's going on. A one-man operation, not slick, but very competent.

After repairing or automatic door he gave detailed instructions for keeping it in tip-top condition. Also to our delight the door is much quieter than when originally installed. Came on time, diagnosed the garage door problem as a broken spring, replaced the two springs, also fixed a broken bolt elsewhere on the door, and took the old springs away. Did it all promptly, professionally, and for less than some others that advertise more widely. I liked him and would use him again.

I will find out tomorrow what my garage door needs.

I called Bill on Tuesday and he agreed to come to look at the door on Wednesday. He game in the two hour window he cited. I was not necessarily expecting him to fix the door on the spot, but he did. He is very knowledgeable and shared safety tips about the door. Both springs were replaced and the broken hinge fixed in about an hour.
I wish all repair people were this prompt, knowledgeable, and effective. I would not use anyone else for anything garage door related.

Bill was prompt in visiting our home for an estimate and in providing a clear written estimate. He arrived on the scheduled day and completed the installation including a thorough cleanup in the three hour estimate he gave us when he arrived. After the installation was complete he carefully explained how to use the features of the automatic door opener including how to handle typical situations that come up.

I initially contacted Bill's Garage Door Service to take a look at a wheel on my garage door that seemed to be failing, which I attributed to some inconsistent door operation. Bill was available for next day service and was able to quickly reinforce the failing component. While he was working on my garage he mentioned that the door opener I have has a plastic gear that often fails after many years of use. This turned out to be a prescient comment. The failing wheel now seems to have been a red herring of sorts. It was actually the gear Bill mentioned that was failing. Later that same day the garage door opener failed completely. I called Bill back and he scheduled me for his next available appointment. He replaced the gear quickly and made multiple adjustments to my garage door to improve its operation. Most impressively, he waived the service call fee for the second visit, only charging me for the gear replacement. My garage door works great now.

On the phone, Bill gave me a few helpful suggestions to try with our obsolete opener before scheduling a service call. He is very knowledgeable and let me know about alternatives to the screw-drive opener we settled on. Bill does very professional work and I would recommend him for your garage door problems.

He installed a new garage door opener and it now works like new. I didn't dislike anything. They came out quickly and were prepared to repair the issue if it were possible. They already had what they needed to install the new unit. Everything was up and running in a very timely fashion. They were prompt and very professional.
