Discovered leak at 3:00pm on Saturday. Phoned & immediately got through to the Saturday guy. He had one stop to make & promised he would get to me within 1.5 hrs - he did.
He addressed the problems right away, he was courteous and he cleaned up everything. He got the water heater working and ran 2 cycles of washer rinse to ensure that the clog was gone,
It could not have gone much better.

Saved us money on unnecessary snaking of pipe and too frequent "draino"
products by adjusting (removing) a spring in our tub drain stopper that
catches a lot of hair.  Why didn't the last 3 plumbers identify the
problem instead of scratching their heads about why the frequent clog
ups?  Guesses: recurring service calls or they had no clue.  Most likely
they had no clue 'cuz I never called them back to fix that problem more
than once.

Manhattan Beach area has some of the hardest water I know to exist. Normally hard water does not bother me, but I literally could not use my dishwasher because it left a film of hard water thicker than dirt on the dishes. All my shower heads are partially plugged. I broke down and I researched water softeners before deciding what I wanted.

I called one provider in my area and they quoted me $5,000! They only sold pelican units. I read some internet information already on those units and I was not interested. The price and unit were not what I was looking for.

I asked Darwin my local plumber and he immediately knew what I needed. He explained all the issues with my local water (he knew it well of course) and he pointed out all the things that mattered for improvements and those that did not. He recommended a water conditioner. It has no maintenance like a water softener, it removes a chemical from the water that is not good for pipes and that does not taste good, and it causes the water to behave like soft water (hard deposits remain in the water). It gives me all the benefits of soft water without the slimy feel on my skin when I shower. No salt to mess with either.

The price was right and I loved the concept of no maintenance. I had it installed and I love it. My dishes wash clean and the water tastes way better.

Darwin requested I coordinate the project by sending him cell phone pictures of the old unusable water softener against my house so he could pre-purchase supplies and give me an estimate. I liked the use of technology. It made things easier for me.

Installation took only a couple of hours.

They were very good.

He ran a little late on the job just before ours and called to say he would be at our site in about one hour, then called right before he arrived so we had time to put our dogs in their kennel. Arrived and was very friendly and went to work right away on the list of items we needed done. Explained he would start in front bath first then move to second taking things apart and diagnosing each problem as they came up. Went over my list with all the parts he needed to get for the repairs. Went through each problem a second time to insure he had not missed anything. Went for a parts run which took about 2 hours. Returned with new parts and with a helper and fixed all that he could and left everything in good shape. He was very through with the cleanup laying down tarps before he began the work. He did forget to attach the riser to the toilet tank in the back bathroom. I was able to attach it with no problem at all to the bottom of the tank. And the toilet worked very well. He did let the dogs out from their kennel to play with them and they loved that. He gave them several treats so the next time he comes in they won't bark as much.

Update as of 07/02/13:

The guy that normally comes out is named Darwin. His nephew, Ethan, came out instead and didn’t seem very experienced. Ethan said, “We’ll call you back when Darwin is back in.” Ethan never called me back. I left a voice mail with them four weeks, after the fact that the work had been done and haven’t heard from them since and now we still have a problem with the leak. We also paid Ethan for a few things he completed for us at the tune of $385. I thought once he got the parts he needed, he would do those small jobs; yet, I’ve not heard from him since.

I called Surfline Plumbing about my leaking bathtub faucet and a couple of slow draining sinks and scheduled my appointment. On the day I was expecting him, Darwin called me prior to my appointment to tell me he had just finished up the job he scheduled before mine. He told me where he was coming from, that he was on his way and about how long he estimated the trip would take, so I would know when to expect him. That gave me time to run a quick errand, knowing that we wouldn't miss each other.
He arrived and started right in on the tub faucet. As he took the handles apart, he showed me the pieces of washers that had disinigrated under my family's heavy handed attempts to turn them off and the damaged seats within the stems. He had the needed replacement parts on hand and quickly reassembled the handles. As he demonstrated how to best keep this problem from reoccuring (this wasn't the 1st time they had been fixed) he asked how happy we were with the pressure we were getting from the shower head. I told him my girls took forever in the shower as they complained that took SO long to get shampoo and conditioner washed out of their hair with that slow flow. A few minutes later, he had that inconvience taken care of, as well. Finally came the slow sinks and what he snaked out of them looked like small rodents, thanks to hair that would get washed down the drain. Our drain stoppers were attached so that we could never get anything down to pull hair out ourselves, so Darwin released the drain stoppers for us. Now we can do our own regular maintenance on the drains.
I would highly reconmend Surfline Plumbing to anyone in need of plumbing repairs. Darwin is knowlegeable about what he is doing and freely shares that knowlege with his customers to help them avoid future problems. He was friendly, considerate and courteous as he quickly resolved all of my plumbing issues.

The installation went well. He is always very comprehensive and resolves all problems. I feel so strongly about his service that I refer him to my clients.

Just great. It was a longstanding issue with the house main sewage, which numerous other professional plumbers had told me was unfixable. Had to do with lack of grading in this one very important branch (kitchen/bath service) which basically laid flat and therefore wouldn't drain clear and just build up muck and we'd rooter it twice a year. Darwin said no problem....he just raised the whole branch starting at the kitchen sink and now it runs just great. Funny, nobody else thought of that. I even thought of that, but previous plumbers said it couldn't be done. Go figure.
Did same with another branch, and new drain system on tub and under kitchen sink. Plus anything else that needed doing he did.
As long as he's in business my plumbing business is handled.

I called Darwin the owner on a Saturday morning and had his service leave a message. He called back within an hour and said though he had other jobs that day, he would come by that afternoon. He showed up on time, and started right away. He tried to use his rooter snake and encountered a blockage the rooter could not get past. We have had a persistent root problem in the past, and he felt they were causing the problem. He would have to dig up the main sewer line in our backyard. It was late in the day and he offered to come back on Sunday. I told him Monday would be fine. His crew showed up early Monday while I was at work. I came home for lunch at 11:00 a.m. and the work was finished. The drains in the house were all clear. The backyard was put back the way it was before. He left the dug up sewer pipe and it was so clogged with roots and dirt, it looked like a potted plant. If I have the problem again, he installed a cleanout that is hidden, but easily accessible. The crew left an invoice under my doormat. Darwin called and said to just leave a check in an envelope under the doormat and he would pick it up.

Since the leak was not large nor was it causing much damage, I agreed that the job could be done on the Monday instead of the late Friday when I called. The contractor arrived promptly on the Monday morning and quickly detected the leak (accessed from the ceiling of the first floor laundry closet) and replaced a copper pipe that had a pin hole leak. While the work was done relatively quickly, gaining appropriate access and working around floor joists made the job a bit more than trivial. The work was done very professionally. I recommend Surfline Plumbing to anyone the in the area looking for plumbing repairs.

Darwin showed up on a Saturday about 3 hours after I called to hurry and fix my leaky shower. I was having mold remediation completed. I wanted my leaky shower fixed because they were doing a general antimold fumigation and I was afraid the leaking shower would undo some of the good of the mold remediation work
I knew the parts to my shower were hard to find. I had asked another plumbing company to fix it and he said the parts were hard to find, then he flaked out on me.
I tried Surfline Plumbing and they were great. I was suprised there are not more reviews on this plumber.
Darwin showed up with his adult, or almost adult son, Curtis. Darwin fixed the shower and Curtis fixed my slow drain downstairs in the other bathroom.
Darwin took the shower apart, examined the parts and figured out where he needed to go to get them. They drove all the way to Garden Grove while I waited.He returned and fixed the shower. Just to be nice Darwin, also unclogged a slow bathroom drain in the same bathroom. Don't expect treats like this, I think I just got lucky.
Darwin informed me he does harder things too. Water heaters and more complicated plumbing issues.
My house has all sorts of plumbing issues so I am keeping his number in my cell phone. Very professional, super nice, quick and knowledgable.

Darwin (Surfline) showed up on time, went right to work, gave a fair price and did a great job..Darwin is a great guy, honest and a straight shooter..overall great experience with a very good plumber that seems to want to create a business on repeat business and focused on delivery good quality at a fair price...This guy is my plumber moving forward!

I've been using Surfline Plumbing for my mainline work for about 2 years now. We have roots in our line and need it cleared out about once a year. I have used several other rooter services in the past but Surfline is the BEST. I have never had to have them come back to re-do the job.

Good, gave a prompt estomate and started the job with-in two day, and completed it on time.

I discovered at 5:30 pm on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend that the kitchen sink was not draining, and was full of stinking standing water. I was worried that I would not be able to get anybody for four days! Darwin came over in about an hour and a half after finishing another job. He fixed the (very deep) clog, and gave me lots of valuable advice on prevention and maintenance. Also fixed a problem with the dishwasher while he was at it. He is very familiar with South Bay construction and plumbing, which is helpful. And he was willing to work late on a holiday weekend without charging extra.

I use Dar all the time for various jobs and he's within 30 mins of scheduled time. He does solid work. I can count 100% on him to do the job. I've been using him for the past 4 yrs. He can do anything. He doesn't skimp on quality. He even puts down a tarp where he works so your home doesn't get dirty.
