Robert brought several stains to test on pieces of scrap wood left by the contractor so I could choose exactly what I wanted. 

Robert arrived with an assistant a bit later than we'd planned but his previous job ran long.  He spent quite a bit of time listening to what I wanted.  He tested a couple of stain colors and ended up making a custom stain color to please me.  He prepared the area carefully so there would be no over-spray.  He sanded the wood, applied one coat of custom stain color, two coats of pre-catalyzed lacquer and then a darker glaze to give the detail in the wood panels and corbels depth and richness.  Afterwards, he applied another two coats of lacquer.

Lastly, he installed the foot rail on the bar (not part of his estimate) as a favor to me.  He also fixed a big gouge in the underside of the bar by using a darker stain to mask it. 

The finished bar is a fine piece of furniture.  The surface is smooth as silk.  The color is perfect.  He didn't skimp on the process even though he was running late.  I would hire him again any time.
