The diagnosis was done quickly and correctly. An EGR valve replacement solved the problem.

I have a Smart car, which Mercedes Benz wants you to take to one of only two service shops, neither of which is anywhere near my home.  A service light started blinking, and I was actually considering "dumping" the car; when I received a service offer from Osborn's and -- miracle of miracles-- they showed a Smart car in their ad.  I immediately took the car to them; and not only did they completely inspect every feature of the car, they refused to charge me anything because they said it was in "pristine" condition and they didn't have to do anything.  They have everything you will need to handle your vehicles, it's a very clean operation, they have a ride service to get you back and forth, they were all as nice as you'll ever find, and honorable in a day when that's rare.  I would have gladly paid a service charge, and they would not accept it.  You must give them a try!

They took my car in within minutes, they gave me a ride home, called me before the estimated time, and the car was ready earlier than I anticipated. All done with courtesy and professionalism.

They did what they said they would do and everyone is polite, courteous, and responsive.  Like an attorney, I only known one in my life that I believed, trusted and actually liked!  He quit and now owns an organic farm in the mid-west somewhere, lol. The point is it is the nature of the beast, but still I feel a mechanic should tell you what is really wrong and not what they can sell you on.  Still, for the animal species, Osborn could be a lot worst!! Most definitely a lessor of evils. I will use them again unless I am informed about someone better!  Service in America is, in my opinion, on par with 3rd world countries now. Having spent a lot of time as an Expat I know what I am talking about.  It saddens me to see it!

"[member name removed], first, thank you for your review. I appreciate the time and consideration. I'd like to explain the "Brake Fluid" issue. I know in the past, brake fluid was never changed unless a major part was replaced such as a caliper, master cylinder or a wheel cylinder. Along with those parts failing and requiring replacement was usually a brake failure or brake pedal going to the floor with limited stopping ability. What we have found over the years is that those brake failures and expensive part replacements can be avoided by "Servicing" the brake fluid. Or, in other words, replacing the brake fluid and flushing the complete hydraulic system. Brake fluid is "Hygroscopic" which means that it attracts and retains moisture. As the brake fluid retains moisture, it loses it's ability to lubricate the hydraulic system and that's where we start to see rubber seals break down and ultimatly cause failure. We can actually test brake fluid for copper content and boiling point to determine the level of deterioration in the fluid. The copper content rises as the fluid drags against the inner wall of the metal brake lines which contain copper. The boiling point is affected by the amount of moisture in the system. So, by using those two tests, we are able to determine that the fluid is not performing as designed and should be replaced to protect you from costly and dangerous breakdowns. I hope I have been able to convey the reasons why we recommend brake fluid replacement, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Scott Osborn (310) 698-5143"

They did a fine job. They had done the same work about a year and a half ago. They diagnosed the warranty work was their responsibility and got it done without hassle. In the end I was very happy.

The service turned out very well. I took the car in for a routine repair and more issues that had to be fixed with the car kept coming up. They told me exactly what they needed to do to the car and decided to buy a new car. They were really great overall.

I had my old Chevy pickup truck towed in to Osborn?s Automotive in January 2010 due to a fuel problem (truck wouldn?t start). I specifically told them to please check the fuel pump because that?s what usually goes out first for this type of problem, especially for older vehicles.  After later confirming that it, indeed, was a fuel feeding problem, they called to report that they would need to drop down both of the fuel tanks and trouble shoot from there going forward to the carburetor because the problem, they said, might be a clogged fuel line.  Trouble shoot? The gas line runs straight from the tank to the fuel pump; how much troubleshooting could be involved? They quoted a $790 beginning charge (just for dropping the dual fuel tanks down).  Their estimate to repair being $1400 ?minimum?.  This included the $200 I paid to have them take the vehicle in (creditable if I had them do the repairs).  I declined their further service and had it towed back home because the whole truck is only worth about $1500.  I then bought the fuel pump from Napa Auto Parts in Torrance and replaced the fuel pump as I had originally suggested that they do.  Maybe their service tech?s have never worked on a car older than fifteen or twenty years old, but really, a teen-age girl could have made this repair.  I wrote an e-mail complaint to the owner?.no response was ever received.  Total cost for me to do this simple repair of the vehicle myself [and I?m no mechanic] was $28.00 and a couple of hours labor (plus the $200 I forfeited to Osborn?s for their mis-diagnosis and for not having had the work performed by them).  The truck has been running fine ever since. They may be ok to use for work such as oil changes, but I would never return to this shop for any ?repair? work because I feel their mechanics? troubleshooting skills are almost non-existent.  With all their fancy analysis, diagnosis equipment, and uniformed mechanics, a simple fuel pump replacement seemed to stump them and elude their detection.

They are not very ?customer satisfaction? driven, in my opinion because I never got my initial outlay of $200 back for the mis-diagnosis.  I know they are in business to make money.... but really now!

They have very good ratings in the area. My car is due to go in again soon. They are not cheap. They are however very respectful, honest, and they do good work. They also have transportation available if you need a ride to and from the shop. They are also very reliable.
