so I was hesitant to buy a new one. I finally decided to keep the Broyhill. I removed the fold-out sleeper. Then I started looking for an upholsterer to add a spring base (to replace the fold-out sleeper) and reupholster the entire couch. After several months of looking, I discovered Orosco Design. I called and explained what I wanted and Mr. Orosco assured me he could do the job as I wanted. My wife and I made a couple of trips to Mr. Orosco’s place to look at fabric, and we found one that my wife and Mr. Orosco believed would look good on the couch (I could not envision what the couch would look like once completely covered). After several weeks, Mr. Orosco called to say the couch was ready. He delivered the sofa soon after.
Even though the rebuilding and reupholstering of the sofa was expensive (at least for me), overall, I am exceedingly pleased with the results of the work. The new spring base creates a firm sitting area, and without the fold-out sleeper, the couch is much lighter (I now move it when I vacuum the living room). Only two aspects of the reupholstering I’m not pleased with: (1) the sofa cushions do not fit tightly together; there is a space of about ½” between each seat cushion (the cushions fit tightly together previously), and (2) the piping on the seat cushions does not go all the way around the cushion’s two sides and front; instead, the piping covers the front and goes about three inches (3”) down each side. I would expect the piping to be complete on all three sides.
I will eventually have one of the two rocking chairs in the living room reupholstered with fabric that goes with the sofa’s fabric, but that is down the road.
