David Bergey, Custom Painting

Telephoned Bergey and asked for quote to paint the exterior of our single story, stucco with wood trim house. House has a 2 car attached garage. A roof covers part of the patio in back. There is also a masonry fireplace chimney. He inspected the job on June 15, 2018 and emailed his proposal later that day. We chose a light green for the stucco and a dark green for the trim. Existing colors were light tan and dark brown. He chose Dunn Edward paint for the stucco and under the eaves and the light color on the front door and garage roll up door. He also chose Benjamin Moore "Aura" for the dark green. This is an expensive paint. It is formulated to resist fading by dark colors. We accepted his proposal and agreed that he would start work on June 19. This allowed me time to move patio furniture and stored items away from the house and to prune extensive shrubbery adjacent to the house to provide clearance for cleaning and painting. David began preparation on June 19. He patiently worked with us to get the right shade of light green paint. This took 3 tries. Preparation and painting, 2 coats, required 10 working days. David is an older man and during hot weather works 6 to 7 hours each day. He is through and careful in his work. Stucco and under the eaves were sprayed and rolled. Trim and doors were sprayed, rolled and brushed. Clean up each day was good with ladders and other equipment and paint neatly stored. As painting of the trim began, he guided us on where the boundaries between the two shades of green would look best. This attention to detail contributed to a very nice looking house. Volumes of paint required were slightly less than his estimate. He adjusted the price by the price of the paint not needed. A small amount of each color was left with us for future use. He said that he has been painting for 30 years.
