My Dell Vostro 200 desktop computer, recently upgraded to Windows 8.1, started making a horrendous noise. When shut down, I had difficulty getting the power button to turn the computer back on. I'm not a computer expert, but I'm willing to look under the hood, and I had previously installed a new video card in this computer. Upon removing the cover, I could see the component whose fan seemed to be making the noise, but I didn't recognize the component. Being fairly new to Yucaipa, I looked for computer repair shops online and decided to call Cornerstone in Redlands. David had me describe the problem over the phone and asked me if the malfunctioning component was the one the external power cord was plugged into. Uh, yes, as a matter of fact, it was. Thus David was able to tell me I had a faulty power supply. (This is where I felt stupid for not figuring that out myself.) I expressed some interest in trying to replace the power supply on my own, and far from being offended by that prospect, David suggested I could buy a new one on eBay, which I proceeded to do. I thought I would try to install it myself, but if that seemed too difficult, David was willing to do it for a reasonable fee. He suggested that before removing the old power supply, I carefully note where the various cords from the power supply were running and take a few pictures with my cell phone. Sure enough, the new power supply came with no instructions, so I would have been lost without following that advice. I was able to do the install myself, and my computer is now purring like a kitten. For David's help and advice he made exactly $0.00, but he has definitely earned my goodwill and future business.
