BD Home Improvements
About us
Whatever your home needs, I’m the man to help you see it done. If you own a home you've probably encountered a really thorny puzzle. There are contractors. They’re just the right people for medium to large home projects employing one to many highly skilled workers. For this man’s expertise you’ll pay top dollar. On the other hand there are day workers you can pick up outside of Home Depot. These folks are just perfect for unskilled small home projects. They’re men who’ll work very hard, but who have limited skills and little training. Thankfully they’re inexpensive. Their problem is you can’t really expect more than general yard and home cleanup from them. Additional DBAs - B D Home Improvements, The Small Job Guru.

The door works very well now.
He did a no-cost, no-obligation initial visit so that he could scope out the job and make an estimate.
He turns out to be something of a door specialist because he does door installations for a local lumberyard. So he was exactly the right guy for our door work.
He was available almost immediately. Some of the other handyman shops were scheduling two to six weeks out.
I will use this guy again when new carpentry type of jobs come up.

The thing I valued the most (aside from the professional work done) is how he made fixes with repairs instead of replacement. I expected the fence and gate needed to be torn down and rebuilt which would have cost so much more. I was so pleased and surprised to see how well he fixed them with techniques and know-how from many years of experience. He further strengthened the fence by adding a 2 by 4 redwood piece on top of fence to add years to its life. He looks for the most cost-effective way to accomplish the job, always looking out for me instead of racking up the costs in his favor. The final cost always turned out to be lower than estimated which is a very pleasant surprise. Regarding the bedroom door he was able to fix the frame and added new door saving me lots of money. He easily fixed one lock on door where the bolt did not retract all the way. He figured in a minute that the wrong setting was used inside the knob. It had been installed by a big hardware store.
He has referred me to several other sources that share same work ethics and cost efficiency as he does. I am slowly building up a list of favorite people. He is definitely at the top of my list - I have never been as pleased with job done as with him. I have referred him to friends. Will definitely use again.

"We are sorry that you had a bad experience. However, it was not with BD Home Improvements. We have not worked together since 2014. We have not performed any services regarding paneling or anything else since 2014. Unfortunately, you have mistaken us for another company. We wish you well and hope your future projects with whoever you work with go well."
It can be tricky to install doors using the existing frame, especially an older frame with lots of wear. Also, we wanted thicker doors so Bruce had to reduce the jambs so that the wider 1 5/8" doors would fit properly. One door went in fine and fit almost perfectly after Bruce matched it and did the jamb reduction. The second door had some issues with frame expansion, and Bruce fixed that by removing the casing boards and adjusting the frame as necessary to make it fit perfectly using spacer boards.
What's great about Bruce is he has all the tools to take care of business, not to mention his years of professional know-how and experience to solve all the little problems that come up. Not to mention also, he is extremely punctual and always answers phone messages and emails when you have any questions.
Not sure how you could possibly find a better handyman than Bruce. If you have any one-man job dealing with wood, he will certainly take care of you.
P.s.- His rates are very reasonable considering his level of expertise. The final cost always winds up feeling less than expected
because he is so efficient and doesn't waste time.

Bruce will work on his own, or you can help with shopping and by providing some on-site assistance. I did it this way, and learned a lot just by watching him and seeing how it does things. He also offers more detailed instructions if you don't mind things going a little slower and adding some additional cost for his extra time.
Bruce has built homes on his own or with very little help and is the resident expert at Sunnyvale lumber for door replacements. We are also going to use him to replace a couple for us and will probably do some other projects with him in the future. Great resource for all the little jobs you've been putting off at the house.
P.s.- For the shed he charged me $75/hour which is very reasonably considering his level of expertise. Bruce will do it for you but of course it's a savings to shop-for-yourself. He will provide a list for whatever he needs at your next meeting.
"Thanks! It was a pleasure working with you! Thanks again!"
"Thanks! I am glad I was able to help! Thanks again!"
