When Jim came to evaluate the situation I told him the consensus of the other companies.  With the square footage of my house he couldn't believe the 5 ton wouldn't cool the house.  Especially since I installed drop shades on the west side.  After looking in the attic at the duct system he told me the ducts were not sized correctly and not connected.  I just paid another company to connect all the ducts!!!  After careful consideration his solution was to put a mini split in the master bedroom since it was the furthest point from the A/C and tie off that duct and install new duct work from the blower to all the registers.  He also installed 3 new registers in the living room and kitchen since the only registers were to the evaporative cooler (swamp).  Also installed an additional air return to help circulate the hot air on one side of the house.  Again he told me there was no reason the 5 ton unit shouldn't cool the house (minus the master) and it seemed ridiculous not to use what I had efficiently.  I agreed and he began the project.  It took a little longer than planned because it was so hot in the attic he and his service person Tate could only stay there until about noon.  I didn't blame them and since I still had cool air from the swamp cooler it was O.K.  The project was completed and so far the house has been cool and very nice.  He is going to have me use the system for awhile and decide if the thermostat needs to be moved to a different location which is also part of the price.
As others have said, Jim doesn't try to sell you additional services or equipment you don't need.  It's not often you find a company that the owner is on site everyday and checking to make sure his technician is doing the job correctly.  I believe he is a man of his word and if this solution didn't work he would do something else to make sure the house did cool.  I will highly recommend him to all my friends and he is my heating and cooling guy.

When Jim was 30 minutes late for the appointment, I called and he admitted he lost my information and wasn't able to call me.  He came within 30 minutes.  He accurately diagnosed the problem as cut water lines and fixed the problem  Additionally, he advised that the misting nozzles may be plugged.  He did not remove the plugged nozzles and I am unable to remove them myself to be able to replace them.  Therefore, the system is only partially functioning.  He also stated his real areas of expertise are heating and air conditioning, not misting systems.

Tuesday my AC would not come on in the morning so I turned it off and my wife and I went to work. When we got home I tried turn on the system again and it came on. The unit is 5 years old and we have never had it serviced. Fearing my unit was going out I called Wednesday to schedule service for Friday. I spoke with Jim the owner and explained what my system had done. He told me it could be the thermostat only needing the batteries replaced, being that it was working when I called him. I told him I would like him to check my unit anyway and he said no problem. Usually service people want to run out to charge you and not try and help over the phone. He told me it would cost $70.00 to check the system and I agreed. I was worried my compressor might be going out being that it had never been serviced. Jim came out on time and reminded me of the $70.00 fee to check the system and I told him no problem. He checked my system completely then came to me and said it was running perfect. A little loud, but he saw no leaks or issues with the system. He told me again it could just be the batteries in my thermostat, because the signal it sends is such a low voltage that it just may have not received the signal to turn on. He didn't try and sell me any additional or yearly service. He was the most straight forward and honest service professional I have ever met. He told me not worry and to call if it happens more frequently. The $70.00 price he told me was what I paid. He told me he would love to sell me something, but it was not necessary  he would rather have a customer. I have recommended him to my family and friends.

He arrived promptly and began inspecting the equipment. The air conditioners which were located outside of the home on the ground were checked first. The furnaces are both located in the attic. He did not go into the attic to check any part of the furnaces. His test of them consisted of turning up the temperature and holding his hand up by a heating vent to see if warm air was coming out. He stated that the air conditioners needed coolant and charged $242.00 to top them off.   In the past when I have dealt with heating companies the furnace covers were always removed, pilot light, and burners were inspected.

Great guy. Honest. Shows up when he says he will. Very decent charge for what he did (two visits, ordering a part and following it up. trying to fix the old one, reinstalling). Excellent service. Some of the the guys who never show and are too busy could take lessons from Jim.

Jim came on short notice within half an hour of the call after I told him the heater needed the thermostat and igniter replaced. He was also able to give me a ballpark figure for the job--125.00. He got right to the job as soon as he got here and replaced parts which I'd received from GE in the mail. Within an hour he was done and had got the hot water going. He also gave me some free tips about replacing my toilet and thermostat for the heating and AC. When he found out I was an Angie's List member he gave me the 10% discount right away. I would definitely use Desert Mist again or recommend Jim to others.

His name was Jim. He was very nice and really helpful. He saved me a lot of money. Another company told me that things would have to be replaced and Jim went under there and it was an easy fix. My baffles had fallen off underneath the house. He helped me out by telling me the truth. His price was very reasonable. I would absolutely use him again.

When I called at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, he answered promptly and a technician was at my house in 20 minutes.  Dave testing everything, trying to determine what it was and what it wasn't.  He patiently answered all my questions while he worked.  Jim came about 20 minutes later and helped determine it was the compressor that has seized (it kept tripping the control panel) and needed to be replaced.  Jim gave me two options and said I could let him know when I was ready to proceed.  I called him later that day and asked him to install a new 5 ton A/C unit.  Jim and Dave arrived the next morning at 8:30 a.m. and installed the new unit, checked the furnace in the attic, and were done by 1:00.  They were professional, competent and speedy...and friendly too.  Thanks Guys!

The tech arrived promptly - within 15 minutes of my call (explained he came from his home nearby) and arrived dressed "casually" in torn dirty white t-shirt etc. during normal business hours.  Tightened the hose bibs but did not have the parts to fix one actual point of the trip which was to hook up an automatic dog waterer. He had a company truck but explained they mostly do air conditioning so that was why he did not have parts to fix the waterer.  The parts we needed would be fairly common sprinkler or hose type parts. He needed to call someone to find out how to adjust the water flow (we have a regulator) to the house as he was not familiar with it? - was in and out in 30 minutes with the minimum charge for one hour of $80.  Was very expensive considering I still do not have the dog waterer working but without parts he could not do anything but tighten screws. Would MAYBE try them for air conditioning in an emergency but not for anything else.  UPDATE:  the faucets he tightened are leaking worse now and the adjustment to the water flow to the house caused pipes to break.  When I get time I'll report them to the contractors board -- not sure the guy that came out was even a real plumber.
