Derek and crew are great at problem solving any special circumstances. They have a good grasp of technology and an aesthetic sense that is rare in this business.

Derek found time to come for a small job the very day I called.
We hadn't used the outlet closest to our microwave in years because the outlet seemed to fail shortly after buying a new microwave. Because we never had it repaired, we had an unsightly and quot;permanentand quot; extension cord dangling down a cupboard then snaking across the counter to the next nearest outlet.
This week the microwave started cutting out again, so I figured it had prematurely bit the dust. We were intending to buy a new one, but I was determined to lose the hazardous draping extension cord, so I looked on Angie's list for a nearby electrician who might be available to repair the original outlet--a very small job.
I called three Angie's List electricians. (Does anybody else find it hard to actually get contractors out to your house? So I decided better to be safe than sorry and line several up.)
The first electrician arrived and asked me if I had a lamp to plug into the outlet to see if it was really not working. Lo and behold, the light switched on! We tried the microwave again, but it didn't... and quot;proofand quot; that the microwave was kaput and not the outlet. I felt silly, but hoped to redeem the situation by asking him for an estimate on a bigger project we have been considering. The nice man left, not charging us for learning that the outlet was good.
I called the second electrician, Derek at Caulder Electric, and told him the situation and asked if he'd still be willing to come out to give us an estimate on the same bigger project. He agreed.
When he arrived I sheepishly showed him the good outlet. Then I described the bigger project we wanted an estimate for but also remembered that my husband has been frustrated about a problem we have with our irrigation system because of what we thought was faulty wiring.
We have a bathroom that has a door that opens into our backyard. Our sprinkler system seemed to be connected to a switch in our bathroom that controlled an outdoor light. Guests who used the restroom sometimes mistakenly flipped that switch, so that the sprinkler system is accidentally turned off. That meant the sprinkler system backup battery was often engaged, so we were constantly replacing 9-volt batteries, then also reprogramming the control box, and even worse if we didn't notice it, the lawn would start to die because unbeknownst to us the sprinkler hadn't been running!
Derek had time to work on this project even though we called him for a much smaller job. AND he was curious enough to re-examine the kitchen outlet, and see that the outlet should probably be upgraded for safety. In the meantime, he wondered if it would be more convenient for us to have it moved closer to the microwave since appliances have such short cords these days. I was impressed by his suggestion and asked that he do this. Then I remembered that the overhead lighting in the kitchen had a broken ballast so that not all the florescent lights worked either and asked if he could remedy this too.
After Derek moved the outlet closer, just for the heck of it, he plugged the microwave directly into the new outlet. (Because the cord was not quite long enough to meet the nearby outlet we had had an adapter piece on the end of the cord in addition to the extension cord when we needed.) Guess what? The microwave worked!!!
The problem wasn't the microwave or the outlet, it was the adapter and the extension cord fittings which were getting too hot had degraded and not allowed the connections to stay connected. (That's a real fire hazard!)
So, Derek and his assistant are my heroes! They fixed many day-to-day minor annoyances we'd lived with for years, probably saved us from an electrical fire, improved the quality/safety of several outlets (in addition to a breaker switch they noticed was loose too), and saved us from buying an unnecessary new microwave!
I definitely look forward to using Caulder Electric for several larger projects ASAP. Derek went above and beyond, was perceptive, conscientious, respectful, affordable, tidy and prompt. Hope you all have a Derek in your future!
A real Angie's List success story!

I called and the owner stated that he would be able to come out to access the problem the same day. He arrived with his assistant and they went to work. They asked what my concerns were and looked in the fuse box and noticed right away what was causing my flickering lights. They also checked other fuses and explained that they should also be replaced and he had the items in his truck. They were very professional and I would use him again. Overall I am happy with the results. No more flickering lights.

He was very good, on time and did what he said he would do. The cost was reasonable; he was neat, clean and cleaned up what mess he made.

Derek did an excellent job. He is responsible, knowledgeable, and very professional. I will be hiring him again to do other work. We purchased our house a year ago and the electrical was not up to par. Many yard lights and landscape lights I did not have switches for, and/or they did not work. The first order of business was to troubleshoot the current state of the electrical, then talk through the new work we wanted done. This included running new electrical services to several places in the patio and backyard area.
Derek did a great job troubleshooting and then proposing how to best accomplish the new work.
He showed up on time, worked hard, did a great job and was very professional. This is his company and he takes his reputation very seriously. Best I can tell, no job is too big or too small.
I highly recommend Derek, the owner of Caulder Electric.

Derek was one of the best sub-contractors that I have used. His pricing was very competitive. The work is of excellent quality and we had no issues passing city inspections. He finished each component of the job early or on time. Derek is also easy to communicate with and he made several suggestions which improved our overall electrical project. I will use him in the future for all my electrical needs.
