The Good I contacted Water Heater Pros to install a new water heater I had purchased, their price was $400.00 plus parts. Seems fair to me. Professional looking installers, were nice to work with, did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. The Bad When I called to confirm the initial appointment the the time had been moved back 2 hours, when I went to the property at the new appointment time, there was 1 man with few tools there and he told me their truck had broken down and the crew was running late and would be and additional 2 hours later, and actually showed up 3 hours later. I do believe that this was just bad luck and their truck did break down. I didn't lower the ratings because of the breakdown. ****** The "plus parts" can get expensive quickly. They charge $6.00 for a 38 cent copper fitting, $5.00 for each galvanized fitting, and $5.00 for each ABS plastic fitting. This can add up quickly. In their defense these prices include the installation labor. For copper fittings these have to be sweated together (commonly called soldered). They charged me $150 for an electrical quick disconnect box that can be bought for about $25 +/-, but again they install it. The Ugly I can accept the fitting prices BUT I was floored to be billed $60.00 for 4 feet of ½ copper pipe. A ten foot piece of ½ copper pipe sells at the big box stores for about $10.00 retail, that’s a 1,500% increase and you would have already paid for the labor to connect it with the cost of the fittings. Final Analysis Would I use Water Heater Pros again – qualified yes. Part of what they sell is availability, water heaters aren’t something that you or your tenant wants to wait a few days or a week or more to get taken care of and they can get on with it. They won’t be my first call, but probably will be my second. If you choose to use them I would suggest that you go to the big box store, ask what you will need to install the water heater of your choice, and buy the big parts (expansion tank, earthquake straps and a 10’ piece of copper pipe – you can cut it on half to get it home) but I’d still let Water Heater Pros supply the electrical box if necessary, and small fittings - also ask Water Heater Pros what else you should have at the site, like lumber for bracing with the strapping if necessary.
Response from Water Heater Pros
"Thanks [Member Name Removed], For your detailed review although you were off on parts pricing somewhat as to cost verses big box stores. Example: Average 3/4" copper fittings are $3 - $5 each and 3/4" copper piping is more than double your cost shown, however, we still have to add profit if we are going to be around for a while. I can assure you our services are professional and our prices are well below the plumbing industry standards. I do however appreciate the time you've taken to leave us a fair review in your view and that's all we expect, and that truck breakdown, well that was the loss of our Diesel engine so we bought a new ford van... because being late for any customer is never an excuse."
