Rob Marks, owner/operator of The Tinman, is one of a disappearing breed of professional craftspersons and it shows in the quality of his work and his approach to his work. When we called him for an estimate, he showed up when he said he would and took the time to explain certain options and recommendations, He completed the work in a timely manner and always thoroughly cleaned up materials and debris. He charges a fair price for his work, and we feel like we received excellent value for our money. The Tinman gets our highest recommendation!

I contacted the Tinman, Rob Marks in early February and he came by my home to put in new high capacity down spouts. I had already had his son out in 2018 to install leaf guards. I had Rob inspect my existing gutters and he pointed out extensive rust in several lengths of gutter. I asked him to replace those sections along with the downspouts. He spent a good 4 or 5 hours doing the work meticulously and the final bill was only $600 dollars. I would also like to point out that he used high quality galvanized steel gutters and downspouts and welded all of the joints and seams. He also pointed out several trouble spots on the roof where the previous installers had done a poor job of installing the gutters and water had gotten under the roof tiles. I would have been totally unaware of this situation had he not pointed it out. I now consider Rob my guy for this kind of work. He really knows his stuff! I would also like to point out that some one has reported his business closed on Yelp. This is absolutely untrue. I would encourage anyone who needs this kind of work to give him a call. He deserves the business! Thanks, Rob, for a job well done!

Rob does really good work; he's a bit of a character. Overall, very reasonable, fair, and genuinely cares about your project. He takes the time to explain the trade, if you are interested in understanding how a gutter should look.

Project went very well. Bob scheduled work around extensive periods of rain and insured that the downspouts would be available when needed. He painted the downspouts to match the existing gutters. subsequent storms proved that his work effectively handled the runoff from the roof. Gutters no longer overtopped.

Two companies that installed gutter "systems" had been given me estimates of $1900 and $4000 for "systems" that would supposedly keep all leafs and debris out of the gutters. But the young estimators seemed to have trouble figuring out how to run the gutters around my odd-shaped two-story roof line. So they added on lots of extra linear feet of their respective gutter systems and extra downspouts. Also, after researching on the web I came to doubt whether either of their "systems" could really keep leafs and roof debris out of the gutters. It seems that all gutters have to be cleaned at some time no matter which covers you put over the gutters. When the Tin Man came out, he sized up my needs in about 15-minutes, with just a couple of downspouts and half the linear feet that the other companies had estimated. Rob did all the work on site in one-day and even painted the gutters too (I provided the paint). There have been two soaking storms so far since the gutters were installed and they are functioning as expected. Unexpectedly, Rob brought his lazy, old, sleepy dog to the job, so if that would be an issue for you or your pets, let him know ahead of time.

Prompt, professional, looks great. He was about the same price as another I looked at but he used better quality materials. I did pay a little more because I got the downspouts that have 3 times the volume so leaves won't clog as easily. He didn't push it just said here are the different ways I can do it and the different costs - and after talking to first guy I did what he recommended. He's a bit of a talker in that he explains thing even after I was ready to buy - but he is informative. Highest recommendation possible. Comes, gives excellent price for the quality of materials and work to be done, then does the work, cleans up the property and is gone. I was leaving and he wasn't quite done, I paid him in full and he finished beautifully. Save yourself some time and trouble - call this guy, IMO 3 bids is a waste of time. ;)

See job description... essentially bid to done in 2 days, and I threw in $100 extra because I felt like I was underpaying for what I received. Very happy with the result... see pictures for before and after.

Our old gutters had deteriorated to the point that water was overflowing and causing damage to our roof and trim. Rob Marks (The Tin Man) worked seamlessly and quickly along with the roofer who did the repairs to our tile roof. The new gutters work perfectly and we are very pleased.

The last thing my wife and I wanted to spend our money on was new gutters, but it couldn't be avoided. The gutters on our single-story house were original and were rusting through in several spots (including right over the front entry way). Plus, they no longer drained. That meant standing water for long periods whenever we got a decent rain, which led to smelly gutters and the potential for mosquitoes. I got three bids for the job and decided to go with Rob because it was clear to me that he would do the best job. He also will make custom gutters; these are wider, deeper and made of a stronger material than the regular gutters everyone else installs. Getting wider gutters was essential for me because we have a large Mimosa tree in the front of the house that, while beautiful and providing a lot of shade in the summer, is extremely messy the entire time it is in bloom. This means it is constantly pouring a ton of plant material into the gutters. Traditional gutters are quite narrow, making them harder to clean. Because I have to clean the gutters a lot, I wanted a wider opening. Rob will have gutters fabricated that are 3 inches wide and 8 inches deep. He and his son did all the work and finished the job before the heavy rain in early February. Right away I was glad I had spent more money for a better product. Having the wider gutters made cleaning them a million times easier and faster, and the gutters actually drained; no more standing water! Rob is a real pro. He knows what he is doing and did a high quality job. In addition to the gutter work, he spotted dry rot around the chimney and repaired it for a nominal extra charge. He also quotes you a price and sticks with it. Gutters are probably the least sexy thing about a house, but they're important and you only find this out when there's a problem with them. Maybe the best thing I can say about the job is that even my wife is happy we spent the money: She says the house looks better, she no longer has to dodge the rusty water rushing through a gutter hole above the front door and doesn't have to be embarrassed by the stench of stagnant gutter water whenever friends visit. And I'm happy because I know we had the job done right the first time. We're very pleased with the work Rob did and would recommend him highly.

Though it was a very small job, Mr. Marks offered to come out the same day I called him.  He and his son arrived exactly when he said they would, estimated the job, and replaced the downspout on the spot.  They did the job quickly and efficiently, I got it painted that afternoon, and it looks like new.  I was happy to get it done quickly and with minimum fuss.

I was having a lot of work done on my house, from repairs and renovation to painting to new gutters. I was surprised to find that getting a good gutter installer was the most difficult aspect of the project. The day I had scheduled an appointment with California Gutterworks for an estimate, they never even showed up. So I picked up the phone and called The Tinman, and Rob hustled over within the hour. I was impressed with his knowledge -- this guy really knows his stuff. He had several samples of rain gutters in his truck, and he took the time to educate me on what goes into quality gutter work. This guy is a serious craftsman. He pointed out the flaws in my existing gutters, how they weren't angled properly to create a good flow of water, and where the original installers had goofed on the installation and how he could fix it. He talked about the downspouts and the proper angle in them to prevent blockage (more like 135 degrees instead of the nearly 90-degree bends I and most of my neighbors had). It was clear this guy was a total pro. None of the other bidders mentioned any of this stuff. When I mentioned the angle of the gutters to one bidder, he replied, and quot; There's not much you can do about that.and quot; So I went with Rob, the Tinman, and I'm glad I did.
Rob showed me several different styles of gutters I could choose from -- quite the opposite from the one-style-fits-all of the other folks I'd talked with. When I had a hard time picking the style I liked best, he offered to take me on a tour of houses he'd installed gutters on so I could see the gutters in place. He took time out of his Sunday to show me several houses he'd worked on. It was actually easy to tell which gutters Rob had worked on and which he had nothing to do with.
Rob is quite a colorful character, and I actually enjoyed my interactions with him. In fact, I'll kinda miss him now that the job's done. I don't think I've ever said that about a contractor before. :]
I will say that The Tinman's quote was not the cheapest I received. If you're on a very tight budget and are looking to cut corners, you'll find cheaper installers out there. But take my word for it, Rob is absolutely worth the few bucks more it costs to have a total pro do the job. Friendly, professional, responsive, a true craftsman. No need to even think twice about it, hire The Tinman.

FOLLOW-UP: I had my house painted shortly after having the gutters installed. The painters (Painting Pros who I also highly recommend) commented that the gutter work was done by the most conscientious gutter installer they'd ever seen. They reported that the work was meticulous, the materials used were of a very high quality, and all the work was completed thoroughly instead of and quot;leaving it for the next guy.and quot; They were impressed, which only validates my high opinion of Rob's work.

Rob is and quot;old school.and quot; I think if you asked him he'd say, and quot;Do it right, or don't do it all.and quot; His phone number rings to an answering machine, but he always, and I emphasize, always returns his calls. I recieved one call after 8pm and another on Saturday. He came out and demonstrated why my gutters weren't work properly, provided several options, and then wrote a bid on the spot. Called him and told him I wanted to proceed with the work and he started and completed it the following week. I'm very happy with the work and I recommned Rob to others looking for good quality work and a guy that is interested in making sure your satisfied.
