Before any work started, I also explained that it must look natural with the detail of the stamping showing through and not look like it was just painted over with house paint. I even said if you can't do that, then just seal over what's already there so the concreate coloring at least looks somewhat like natural stone. He assured me he could do what I wanted with the coloring and we went forward.
The first attempt came out completly monotone paint-look exactly as I said I didn't want. Not sure why he even asked me what I thought of it after I explained what I was looking for the previous day and it was clear that the result wasn't even close.
He then offered to add antiquing to give it a more natural appearance at no extra charge. I agreed and he came back several days later and added antiquing which improved the appearance.
However, the antiquing was done without attention to detail and a few large spots were clearly missed. I asked him to come out again and he re-applied more antiquing, but it was done sloppily and heavily with darkened patches where he went over the previously missed areas.
I don't know if he passive-agressively did a bad job fixing it so I wouldn't keep asking him to fix it again or if that was really the best he was capable of doing. So, I stopped asking him to fix it because I didn't trust that he wouldn't make it even worse on another re-try. I kind of got the impression that he had not done this specific type of job before, so it might be lack of skills rather than vindictiveness why it was worse after he "fixed" it.
No matter what the reason, it was very unsatisfactory, but not so bad that it is worth paying another service to redo it from scratch.
So, I will just live with it as is until it fades and use some another company if I have more work done on it in a few years.
